Freelance PR , Writer

Shoichi Yamada

Large capacity and a good outdoorsy feel.

What kind of work do you do now?

Yamada:I mainly do outdoor-related PR and write for outdoor media. I also work on productions for outdoor brands, styling and coordinating places and spaces.

What kind of outdoor activities do you enjoy? (This interview was conducted before the state of emergency was declared.)

Yamada:I've been busy lately , so I've been doing day campfires. We all have a bonfire, cook a quick meal, and come home. Since it is difficult to schedule an overnight stay, a quick one-day bonfire is what I recommend these days. I can't drink a lot of alcohol because I have to drive, but I can enjoy a drink at least the first time I arrive. The best location is within the Tokyo metropolitan area, and the closest is Chofu.

Do you have any outdoor activities you would like to try in the future?

Yamada:I would like to do some canoeing this year. On a lake or a river. . Outdoor activities ultimately come down to water, don't they? . There is not much to do when it comes to camping.

. I guess you go camping to relax, but after a few times, it may not be enough.

Yamada:Camping, for example, is something you can do even when you're older. Fishing is also a game, for example, mountain stream fishing can lead to river climbing, and kayaking across places you can't go on foot can expand your outdoor field even more. The bottleneck is that it costs money (laughs).

What kind of bags do you usually use?

Yamada:They are all backpacks. . now it's a bag about the same size and capacity as this one. My luggage is a computer, a change of underwear in case of some emergency, medicine, salt and pepper, a compact camera, and so on. . I have a lot of luggage, so a larger bag is very useful.

. Perhaps the sense of envisioning the extraordinary is unique to those who are in contact with nature.

Yamada:I feel like I'm losing my senses when I'm only in the city . I have a habit of thinking, "Just in case..." . I think it's also because I'm a bit timid (laughs).

. But with that much stuff in the bag, the bag will be heavy.

Yamada:. Therefore, I am particular about the comfort of carrying a backpack. The Brown Buffalo backpack has a chest belt and firm straps, so it's good. It also has a lot of compartments for dividing my stuff into smaller items, and it has a PC sleeve, so it's convenient.

You chose the coyote color out of many colors for this project.

Yamada:With the coyote color, the dirt doesn't stand out so much. Although it is sporty today, I usually dress in denim and a T-shirt. If it has too much of an outdoorsy feel, like an outdoor sack, it wouldn't fit, but with a face like this, it doesn't stand out. If the coyote look is too strong, it emphasizes the outdoors, but this coyote color is just right.

1LDK store staff

Matsuura Miyu

A bag to be worn with a jacket as a detractor.

How long have you been working at 1LDK?

Matsuura:A little over 2 years . . I worked at "1LDK apartments." for women in Nakameguro for 2 years, and now I am a sales associate at "1LDK" for men across the street from there.

It is unusual for a woman to work in a men's store, isn't it?

Matsuura:Yes . I work with a men's staff. . I have always been incorporating men's items into my styling. . Nowadays, female customers come to "1LDK" frequently.

What kind of men's items do you use?

Matsuura:Men's pants are difficult to find in terms of size, so I sometimes wear women's slacks with a men's big-size shirt, for example. Today, I'm wearing a Seya set-up and Giacometti sandals. I always wear a white T-shirt.

What kind of bags do you usually use?

Matsuura:I have a small leather bag or waist pouch. Since I generally do not carry things, I put things in that small bag or, if it is winter, in the pockets of my coat. . I use the bag most of the time when I wear a jacket. For example, I wear a waist pouch with a jacket, or a T-shirt, denim, and a waist pouch, which looks too much like a T-shirt, denim, and a waist pouch, so I wear a waist pouch with a setup and leather shoes.

Today's "The Brown Buffalo" was a sling bag slightly larger than a waist pouch.

Matsuura:(. the capacity (for me) is large. . I think I can put everything in it. . It is also lightweight, so I can carry it on my shoulder and it won't get stiff.

. Surprisingly, it blends in well with the jacket setup.

Matsuura:. It's like the jacket and waist pouch I mentioned earlier, but without the waist pouch. Also, I like the color. Most of these bags have shiny black or khaki colors and textures, but I think this one is easy to match with everyday clothes.

Sales representative, illustrator , potter

Naoyuki Yoda

Compact and cute rice balls that can be handled roughly .

What kind of work do you do now?

Yoda:. I work as a salesperson in a "reshop" and do artwork such as illustrations, paintings, etc. . . I also make pottery in Saitama, such as mugs, vases for single flowers, and ceramic figurines in the shape of carved wooden bears.

It's unusual to have three activities: sales representative, graphic design, and ceramics.

Yoda:I grew up in Saitama, but pottery was very close to me, as I was not allowed to buy toys when I was a child, so I played with dolls using a pile of pottery from my grandfather's house, who was a potter. When I was also a small child, there was a recreational activity at my preschool where everyone was encouraged to draw a picture book called "The White Horse of Sukho," and I won a gold prize for drawing a scene that looked like a sink. The prize was a set of crayons. I was so happy to receive that gold prize that , at that moment, I decided that I wanted to make drawing a lifelong hobby (laughs). Later, when I was studying abroad in New Zealand during high school, my teacher encouraged me to attend art classes every day, where language communication was limited, and I was confronted with my artwork, which was also a great experience abroad.

I understand that you also work as a sales representative at "Reshop"?

Yoda:After "1LDK," which gave me a lot of experience, "Reshop" picked me up. The staff at "Reshop" are senior staff with multiple channels, such as stylists and graphic designers, and they are a great source of inspiration to me outside of sales.

Are there any artists that have influenced you or that you like?

Yoda:I do this with the mindset of creating a work of art, not a product, and when I visited the studio of a Brooklyn artist named Steven Powers (also known as ESPO, a graffiti writer), his apprentice, who came in wearing a tattered T-shirt, was very cool. He was so cool. He told me, "The time you spend painting is the time you are alive," and I was really inspired by that. I don't want to unconsciously imitate him, so I don't check his Instagram.

What is the motif of your paintings?

Yoda:The motifs are often people I have met or scenes I have actually seen. As for my hand-drawn pictures, my style has not changed since I was about 16 years old.

What kind of bags do you usually use?

Yoda:Almost always a backpack. Like today, I wear denim, a T-shirt, and a backpack. I usually use something a little larger, but I've been looking for something compact like this "The Brown Buffalo" for a long time. I've been looking for something compact like this "The Brown Buffalo" for a long time. Also, the sturdy fabric makes it easy to carry around, and I think a 13-inch laptop computer will fit in it.

What do you look for in a bag for daily use?

Yoda:I wear casual clothes most days, so I prefer a bag that doesn't have to be delicate if it gets rubbed. . I don't want to worry too much if it gets wet in a little rain. . This one has a simple, unadorned design, so it will go with any outfit. The compartments are also deep, so I thought it would be easy to take out my stuff even if I put it directly into the bag without putting it in a pouch or something.

Do you plan to continue to work as a salesperson, graphic designer, and ceramic artist?

Yoda:Three legs (laughs). That's a new word (laughs). I am living a life that fluctuates between being cutthroat and not being cutthroat, but I would like to continue to absorb many things while being involved in "reshop" and expressing them in many different ways. When I am at least octopus-footed, I hope to see you again (laughs).
