One Mile Wear for Life

GU and SOPH. collaborated to create 1MW by SOPH.
The endless one-mile that the three parties lead.

These past few months have seen more than a few changes in our lives. Although we still have a lot of work to do, I am sure that many of you have noticed details in your daily lives that did not catch your attention until now. What to wear and how to spend your time . What to pay attention to and what not to. I am sure there are many lessons to be learned. 1MW by SOPH." is a collaborative collection by "GU" and "SOPH. . The genesis of this collaboration dates back to about a year ago. What was Mr. Seinaga, who directed the collection, thinking when he created these clothes before the era reached a major turning point? Together with YOSHIROTTEN and Ryohu, who realized the concept together, he told us about the behind-the-scenes of one-mile wear for a new era.

. Since the parts that could be enjoyed by various people had already been secured, I thought it would be okay if the music was a little sharper. (Ryohu)

Seinaga:The arrangements of the songs have changed since I first heard them, haven't they?

Ryohu:Yes, that's right. During the process of making the song, I thought it would be a good idea to add a bit of a modern element. I thought it would be better to write lyrics about my real life, rather than just one-mile trips to the convenience store, pizza delivery, and so on. I thought it would be better to write about my real life rather than just writing lyrics about one-mile trips to the convenience store or getting a pizza, etc. Since the two of you had already established that the music could be enjoyed by all kinds of people, I thought it would be okay if the music was a little sharp.

. Toward the end of the production process, there was a period of self-restraint from going out due to the new Corona, and the importance of loungewear and one-mile wear changed considerably there.

YOSHI:Yes, that's right. I stayed at home for two whole months, and although I worked, I had more time to read books, watch movies, and think about the house. I've been in T-shirts and shorts the whole time, building a record cabinet, buying an aerobic bike, and so on.

Seinaga:I got one too (laughs). During the day, I put on the radio instead of the TV. . so that I don't have to choose my own music. If I have to choose my own music, my day doesn't change much. . With the radio, I get a minimum of information, and it's easy to see the time go by. I telework, and when 6:00 p.m. comes, I say, "Okay, dinner is ready! Dinner's ready. . I ended up giving my aerobike to a staff member.

Ryohu:(Laughter).

Seinaga:What about Ryohu?

Ryohu:It had been hot lately, so I used my favorite T-shirt as loungewear and always wore shorts. I was working on my own music at the same time, so I didn't get out much before Corona, and I was going back and forth between my home and the studio, which was about two stations away. I was going back and forth between my house and the studio, which was about two stations away.

. But as a musician, you are likely to be approached unexpectedly by fans even when you are not paying attention, aren't you?

Ryohu:When I was paying the bill at Starbucks, a young boy asked me, "Are you Ryohu?" . I'm glad I wasn't wearing loungewear at the time, but you can never be too careful (laughs). I was glad I wasn't wearing loungewear at the time, but you can never be too careful (laughs).

This time we happened to have the Corona shock, but even if we didn't, I think this idea was inevitable. (Kiyonaga)

YOSHI:(Laughs). But I asked Ryohu to do it because I could imagine such a lifestyle.

Seinaga:I like the phrase "coincidence or inevitability. In this case, the Corona Shock happened by chance, but even if it did not, I think the idea was inevitable. That is why when I listened to the lyrics of Ryohu's song after it was written, I was excited and thought, "Oh! I was so excited.

Ryohu:Thank you . I was depressed when we couldn't do the first shoot because of the corona after the song was written, but I'm glad that the song and the clothes ended up being a positive experience for everyone.

Can you tell us a little more about the design of "1MW by SOPH.

Seinaga:The first one I made was a set-up. Personally, I often felt that quality tags touched my skin or got in the way, so this time, I printed all of them. I was actually thinking of making all the clothes plain, but g.u. requested it, so I included the logo.

I guess I was too anonymous (laughs).

YOSHI:(Laughs) . Are these gray pants underwear?

Seinaga:I guess they are similar to trunks. I don't want him to wear boxers under them, but I think he can go out with just these on if he is picking up a package or something. What kind of underwear do you usually wear during the day?

YOSHI:Boxer shorts.

Seinaga:I too wear boxer shorts during the day, but at night, after I take a bath, I like to change into a pair of yuletide ones. I don't like to be constricted. . So I wanted to make something I could wear at those times.

YOSHI:It looks like it would be good for women's workouts and such. Also, the children's clothing is soooo good.

Seinaga:This year marks 22 years since we started "Sof" and those who were 20 years old then are now 42 years old. I think there are people who say, "I used to buy a lot of clothes while working part-time, but now I'm an office worker," or "I'm back in my hometown and have kids, so I can't buy many clothes anymore. I thought that with the "g.u." brand, we could reach out to people like that. By the way, how old is your father, Ryohu?

Ryohu:Let's see, I think I'm probably about 56 or 57 .

Seinaga:Wow. I listened to both "KANDYTOWN" and Ryohu's solo before working on this project, and I thought that Ryohu's father and I must be kindred spirits (laughs). (Laughs.) The "Setagaya-ku" feeling in the songs really comes through, and I think he must have grown up with a father like that. I thought, "I wonder if he grew up with this kind of father. Where is your hometown?

Ryohu:It's a place called Kamada in Futakotamagawa .

Seinaga:Kamada . I lived in Okamoto near Kinuta Park for about 7 years, and thinking back, I have been thinking about one-mile wear since then. It was just a mile or so to Futakotamagawa. There are no convenience stores in that area.

Ryohu:The only convenience store that existed went out of business (laughs).

Seinaga:Three F.

YOSHI:That could be put in the lyric (laughs).

Seinaga:(laughs). I listen to hip-hop as if it were enka, and I like localized rappers. I like localized rappers because I feel that they have the perspective of their birthplace and show their humanity.

. You three are from different generations and have different lifestyles, but it is interesting that you all have some things in common.

Seinaga:." I think that, in that way, "1MW by SOPH." was born out of necessity. . I think we were in close proximity. . Otherwise, the "3F" story would never have come up.

YOSHI & Ryohu:(Laughter).
