10 saggars and charcters.
Reviving Leapipes in the late 90's in the modern era.

Surfing, travel, fun... the brands "10box" and "ChahChah" are brands that incorporate all kinds of lifestyles into their clothes. Last year, these two brands were joined by Lee to create exclusive items for the Freaks Store. It has been about a year since then, and this time, "10 sagger" and "ChahChah," both of which pursue unique manufacturing, focused on "Lee Pipes," Lee's extreme sports line that was released in 1997. How were these new products born? The representatives of the two brands had memories of their younger days.

Detailing updated to a modern version.

Were the items in this collection created by referring to past patterns?

The neon color is a reference to the period. The packering is a characteristic of nylon, and the logo, typical of the late 90s, is also a feature.

YUTA:. I wanted to do that, but I couldn't find any old ones. So, someone at Lee Pipes made a pattern from a photo that was in an advertisement at the time. As for the shorts, they were originally long pants.

PIGU:. So these shorts don't look modern at all. When I put them on, the silhouette becomes trapezoidal (laughs).

Trapezoidal shapes look cool nowadays, don't they?

PIGU:That's true . But I still feel uncomfortable (laughs). Surfing culture nowadays is based on the 60s and 70s, with short length sea pants and black wetsuits. In this context, I think this silhouette and coloring are new. Also, as a surfer, you know that I spend a lot of time in sea pants all day long. So I added pockets that you don't see on regular sea pants. For cigarettes, cell phones, etc.

Shorts can also be worn as saltwater pants. Therefore, there are drainage holes, etc. in the pocket area to remove water.

YUTA:Also, the original pants were zipped and buttoned, but I made them zipped and laced so that they could be worn in the ocean as sea pants as well.

What changes have you made to the overalls since your last collaboration?

YUTA:. It is wider than the last time. . Also, the knee patches that were attached to the original ones at the time have been made into pockets.

PIGU:This pocket is one of the features of "Lee Pipes". . You can also put your cell phone or passport in it. . At the time, it was the size of a mobile phone, but we also made it the size of an iPhone. At the time, Amuro and others were wearing this type.

I hear the lookbook turned out interesting as well.

PIGU:When YUTA and I came up with the concept for the lookbook, we decided that we wanted to go with a "bang for your buck" look. We kept looking at old magazines and discussing whether this look was 1994 or 1995. But since we are two years apart in age, and I went to high school in the same year, we lost track of the time. I was like, "When was the last time you wore wallabies? (laughs).

Completed LookbookThe models were teenagers. The models are teenagers and were photographed in Shibuya. Stylist Shota Funabashi styled the clothes based on the three models to be released. I think I was able to capture the feeling of gangs and teams back then," said Pigu.

. There was a lot of change within a year or two back then, wasn't there?

PIGU:Yes, that's right. High school girls were also in their kogyaru heyday, but which type of kogyaru were they...high socks weren't worn at that time, for example (laughs).

YUTA:I think the gals and we had changed a lot in one year's time. Anyway, it was difficult for us to find a place where we could both say, "This is it! It was difficult to find a place where we could both say, "This is it!

PIGU:I wanted the shoes in the lookbook to have a realistic feel, so I wanted to bring in , "Leaf" and "Simple" shoes. . I thought there was no way I would be able to find such shoes in the lookbook. . However, I got a little fuzzy about that, and as a result, the lookbook ended up looking roughly like the mid-90s.

In this photo taken in 1995, Mr. Pigu is wearing a red shirt, short denims, and "Nike. By the way, he was reading "fine" magazine during this period.

PIGU:I can't believe it myself, but I'm wearing Nike shoes (laughs). (Laughs.) And all the guys around me are wearing Nikes, too. So, in pursuit of a realistic look, I had everyone wear "Nike.

. It seems that the items in this collection will be perceived in different ways depending on the age of the customer.

YUTA:I think so. So I am looking forward to seeing how the younger generation, who are not familiar with this period, will incorporate it into today's fashion, while those who have experienced it will be nostalgic for it. It would be nice to see it incorporated into fashion, and I would be happy to see it used in new ways.

. Lastly, I know you haven't been able to go surfing, let alone overseas, due to Corona....

PIGU:I haven't been able to go at all. . As for overseas, I don't see myself going there in the future. If I wanted to, I could go, but even if I did, I don't feel like I would be able to meet up with friends. There is also the racial issue. . I hope to use this opportunity to expand my community in Japan.

How about you, YUTA?

YUTA:. I have never really been at home like this before. And since I no longer have time to go in the ocean, I spend more time with my family, and I feel like we are closer than before, and I once again think how nice it is to have a family. . However, I would like to be able to go anywhere freely soon and go on a surfing trip wearing this or something like it.
