The heart-stopping storyline, the fantastic visual beauty of the colors, and the 31 songs by gorgeous artists that support the storyline make this new film even more colorful and sublime. The film is described as "more than a musical, it's a playlist movie." We remotely interviewed actors, designers, models, and comedians who were moved by the film. We will be looking at the appeal of this film along with the playlists they have selected.

03 Parents learn from their children. That is what moved me.

Were you aware of "WAVES" before?

(Film critic) Tomohiro Machiyama gave a favorable review of this film, so I definitely wanted to see it. I also liked the color sense and nuance of "Moonlight," and since the studio is also A24, I felt something similar to that, so I was interested. Like the photo on the poster, the gradation of pink and blue, which could not be natural, was not just an eye-catching device, but I felt that each color had its own meaning.

The poster is very eye-catching, isn't it? How did you feel when you actually saw it?

When I saw the poster, I thought it was a romantic film. When I opened the film, I found that it depicted family love, and in a good way, it betrayed my expectations. There were parts of the film that I could relate to even if I did not grow up in such a family, such as the strict father and the mother who is atrophied by the father.

I think it's a feeling that you can't just dismiss it as someone else's problem, even though you have a different family environment and live in a different country.

The main character changed in the middle of the film, and those aspects were also fresh. It was an uncomfortable performance, and I was also impressed by the way Tyler's reflection changed completely between the first half and the second half of the film.

Music also played an important role in supporting the story.

I myself am not an expert on hip-hop, but I still enjoyed it. There were many songs used in the film besides hip-hop, and "Sound & Color" by Alabama Shakes is one of my favorite songs, so I was moved when it was played. It's a film that values not only the melody but also the lyrics. Even if I didn't know the song, the lyrics were played along with the scene, so there were many songs I wanted to listen back to. I was told that they created the playlist first and then worked on the script, and I felt that this created a natural flow.

Were there any scenes that left a lasting impression on you?

I was impressed by the scenes, or rather the storyline. In the beginning, the father is passionately instructing Tyler, and after Tyler causes an incident in the middle of the film, the father himself feels guilty that he might have been responsible for the incident. And in the end, the family is moved by a single word from the sister. There are things that children learn from their parents, and there are things that parents learn from their children. In this film, it was depicted within the framework of a family, but I thought it was a value that could be applied to a wider community.

I think the lessons learned in this work are also very touching.

Yes, it was a very good piece of work. It is a film with modern nuances, but at the same time it has a universal message. I think it is a film that should be seen today.

No. 1
Sound & Color

Alabama Shakes.

This song played during a memorable scene was most impressive." The title and lyric "Sound and Color" are very symbolic of the film.

No.2
True Love Waits

Radiohead

I cried when this song came on during a scene that made me think about "family" even if we are not blood related.

No.03
Godspeed

Frank Ocean.

A song used in the preview. From now on, when I hear this song, I will remember "WAVES".

No.04
LVL

Asap Rocky.

It is a song that lifts one's spirits in the early stages of the film so that even those who do not usually watch movies can watch it with songs they have heard before, and this film will make them fall in love with the movie.
