It's usually a beautiful shirt.
I've heard in many places that UNIQLO is great these days, so I probably don't need to say it out loud here, but even so, UNIQLO is great these days. In other words, there are things that I want just as much as anyone else. When I was in junior high school, Eiichi Otaki's "A LONG VACATION" was at the top of a "100 Great Japanese Music Albums" feature I saw in a magazine. I was intuitively attracted to the album and got hooked on it, and it has remained my favorite album ever since. The bright blue sky, the contrasting shadows of the strong sunlight, Palm Springs stretching high into the sky, and the pleasant-looking swimming pool. Just looking at them is exciting, or rather, enjoyable. I had the opportunity to interview Mr. Hiroshi Nagai in the past, and he allowed me to purchase the poster in the photo. This summer, the Corona disaster is preventing me from going out, and the beach is out of the question. So I thought I would hang this poster in my room and enjoy a little summer atmosphere while staying home.

Everyone has fashion icons who have influenced their own style. For me, it is the five members of "The Strokes" and Pete Doherty of "The Libertines," whom I came to know in my late teens, and surprisingly, James Dean is one of them. The fashion he showed in the movie "Rebel Without a Cause" was the very ideal for me, a lover of simple things. I was in my mid-twenties at the time, and the white T-shirt and jeans worn by Dean's character, Jim, were very special to me. The bar rivets on both sides of the frame are also stylish. I haven't had the courage to try on a white T-shirt and jeans yet, but I hope to find a new me with "Caribbean" this summer.

Paul Smith is a brand that I am deeply attached to. I have been checking out their clothes without fail since about 15 years ago when I started my current job, and I always look forward to seeing their new collections because there is always something surprising in the humor of each collection. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the start of the brand. The fact that the brand has lasted for half a century in the midst of tough times may be due in large part to Paul's friendly personality, not to mention his designs. HOUYHNHNM's is especially pushing "Red Year" at Paul Smith. To reiterate, this is a Japan-made line that expresses vintage, military, and work elements with Japanese craftsmanship. This season's inspiration comes from 1980s paint art and European vintage, and the jeans are a particular standout. One of the best items in the line is this pair of jeans. After the patchwork is applied, the denim is treated with chlorine, which turns the denim white and the patched area orange. The delicate manufacturing methods, such as changing the blend ratio of wool and cotton fibers, adding fluff and nep, and so on, can create different looks, textures, and even functionality. This was brought to my attention by Kvadra, a textile manufacturer used to upholster furniture for interior designers and to make clothing for maison brands. The cushions designed by designer Raf Simons are beautiful with their vivid colors and textures. They remind us of nature, such as a flower garden, a silver world, or a moss landscape. With "someday a sofa, too" in mind, we decided on the cushions as our first kvadra.

The photographs show realistic images of people living in Germany at that time, but what is noteworthy is their fashions. Flip-flops are my favorite summer footwear. They are what are called "bee-sans," but I think their lightness, that unreliable nonchalant air, and the way they sink into the shape of the foot and feel scuffed up are unique to flip-flops, not found in sporty sandals or leather sandals. The only problem I have is that I get blisters at the beginning of the season. I chose Hanao Beach by Whole Love Kyouto because I thought it would avoid such initial damage. This gem, which has a snub nose made by craftsmen under imperial warrant from Osaka's Kikunoyoshi and Hiraishige Shoten, is a perfect fit for the feet and has a design that is both warm and innovative. At first glance, the design looks peculiar, but when you try them on, you will find that they go well with any fashion. It would be interesting to match them with a set-up, for example.
