Meilin (ZOMBIE-CHANG)
Artist

An artist who handles everything from vocals and performance to track making and lyricism. In addition to her genre-defying and highly addictive music, her unpretentious character and adorable mask make her a sought-after model as well. Her latest album "Take Me Away From Tokyo" was released on August 5.

You have appeared in many media outlets wearing your own clothes.

I seem to like it, apparently. I thought I didn't like it, but to those around me, I seem to like clothes.

That's a very Meilin-like answer (laughs).

Recently I've noticed that conversations can expand through fashion. I realized that some people are interested in me because of the kind of clothes I wear and who I am. I have enjoyed knowing that there are other tools like that besides music. When I looked at various brands, I found that the designer's character was expressed, and when I learned about that, I began to think that fashion is interesting.

What did you like about these sneakers?

I don't carry a lot of change, but I thought I could put it in this little pouch when I need it for the occasional split check or something (laughs). It would also be great for clubs and such, since I can fold it up and put bills in it. I also really like the black and orange color scheme.

I would like to change the subject and ask you about your music. Your last album was made with a band, but your latest album, "Take Me Away from Tokyo," is again based on electronic sounds. Was there a change in your mindset?

The biggest thing is that I fell in love with club music. I had been making electronic music before, but I hadn't listened to it that much and didn't know it that deeply. I wanted to do it with a band like before, but I wanted to do it in a more planned way and I wanted to see myself grow, so I came back to electronic music.

What did you discover while working with the band?

Anyway, I enjoyed the expedition. I couldn't have experienced the feeling of having sessions and good performances together as a solo band. It was because of these band activities that I came to understand more about what I like, and it also gave me a chance to reconsider electronic sounds.

Meilin, your music has an originality and a genre-less feel to it. Are there any influences from your past works?

I think I am influenced in some way, but I don't consciously try to find older music. There are times when I ask someone in the know about a song I like, and they tell me it is actually an older song, but I don't concentrate on listening to it because of its age. When I go out, the latest songs are always playing. So I think that good music is good regardless of its age.

Do these activities have any influence on your music production?

If I only work on music, I sometimes become too serious about music and get bogged down. So, I feel that ideas come to me more naturally if I have other thought processes. I get a lot of stimulation from being allowed to do various things like this.

The Nike Daybreak follows in the footsteps of the classic Nike Daybreak model released in 1979. The familiar rubber waffle outsole and nylon upper give the shoe a vintage look. The blue label on the side is reminiscent of a sticker with the name of the item written down so that the wearer never forgets it.
