You attended Bunka Fashion College, but what made you decide to work on the selling side instead of the making side?

Yamauchi:I did all kinds of work, but I was more interested in marketing and business than in design. So I started working at "Takahiro Miyashita the Soloist. I worked at the Aoyama store, and came here when the Parco store opened.

What were the differences between the stores?

Yamauchi:This is the largest store in Tokyo, and because it is located in a location that attracts a variety of customers, it is easy to show and promote the brand's world view.

What attracted you to the brand in the first place?

Yamauchi:It was because the brand had the backbone of the music I love.

Indeed. The designer Mr. Miyashita himself is also active in music, and the theme of the collection and even the direction of the show are all infused with music.

Please tell us when you first became aware of music.

Yamauchi:I was in junior high school, and I had a lot of friends who liked music, so I mainly listened to 2Pac and hip-hop. Then, when I was 18, an acquaintance invited me to start DJing.

You are very precocious! What genre of music do you DJ yourself?

Yamauchi:I tend to go to house and disco. In terms of boxes, "KOARA" and "Suigetsu" in Shibuya match my personal tastes and are fun to hang out at. There are young people and adults alike, so I sometimes make friends there.

Do you buy records for DJing?

Yamauchi:That's one thing, and I also buy some for myself. It's easy to come here from work, and there are a lot of dance music records, so it's good to fish around. There are also a lot of new releases, so I sometimes check them out online and then come back to the store to buy them.

It seems to me that it is a matter of all ages, countries, and genres.

Yamauchi:I listen to a wide range of music, and when DJing, it's important to get the crowd going, but I also try to listen to music that I genuinely think is cool.

Are there any DJs you admire?

Yamauchi:If you are Japanese, I would say that Kenji Takimi is a legend. I am attracted to him from a sensory point of view, and the best thing about him is his behavior. He is cool.

I hope we can work together someday! By the way, what did you buy during the shoot?

Yamauchi:This is the C.O.M.B.I edit of "You got love song". I have some of the label's here, but this one was something I had never seen before.

You're a label-hunter! As a DJ, what do you want to be in the future?

Yamauchi:I hope it will be as good as it can be. If I wanted to, I would like to do it in a bigger box (laughs).
