Music is left on even when sleeping.
Where are some of the places you go in your private life where you can experience the culture?
MIU: I like records and books, and Jimbocho is my favorite town.
I see you have a book with you today.
MIU: Today I'm reading "Mushigake to Anigake," a book of dialogue between Mengji Yoro and Hayao Miyazaki. I'm binge-reading a few books at the moment, and the dialogue is good because it's easy to get into that world quickly, even if only for a little while. I also write lines on the parts of the book that interest me. I often reread books that I like, and it is interesting to see how I react to different parts of the book each time I read it.
There is an anecdote that "First Down" was worn by artists such as Michael Jackson and Notorious B.I.G. Do you have a specific genre of music that you listen to?
MIU: Now it's blues. I also listen to hip-hop, reggae, and rock. I used to be into rock until recently, but when I learned that one of my favorite artists used to be into blues, I decided to go back to blues. When I listened to recent artists, I found that some of them crossed genres, mixing blues and new wave, for example. Also, the generation that grew up listening to the blues is combining it with other music they have listened to. I like that kind of genre-crossing blues.
When do you listen to it?
MIU: I listen to it all the time at home. I even play it through the night while I sleep. When I wake up in the morning, I feel relieved when music is playing.
How do you find new music?
MIU: Maybe more through Bandcamp.
