I thought, "Hey, hey, hey, Shinpei, your half cab is so chunky. That's exactly the cab I was looking for.

Sota Nakai ( , Nakai):First of all, congratulations on your 15th anniversary!
Shinpei Ueno ("Ueno"):Thank you very much!
Nakai:The first time I met you was at Kappa (a skate spot in Umeda), right? Do you remember wearing KOSS headphones? A local senior was looking for the same headphones at the time, but maybe he saw Shinpei's headphones and wanted to buy them.
Ueno:But I was also influenced by Rui Araki, wasn't I? I like the way it folds up into a small, futuristic shape.
Nakai:Didn't you skate with it on at a skating competition?
Ueno:I was following it. There was a time when I didn't talk to anyone while skating (laughs).
Nakai:There it is, there it is! I'd do some trick and talk to him, but he'd take his headphones off and say, "What? What?" Like that. I couldn't have a conversation with him.
Ueno:I was creating my own skating parts in my head. I would ride to my favorite songs and feel good about it. It was like I didn't want anything but my own world, and when I think back on it now, I feel like such a jerk (laughs). (laughs). I think the period when I was silently immersed in my own world was the period when I was wearing the headphones at Kos.
Nakai:I see. The headphones from "Koss" got me, and when we talked about the shootan later, Shinpei-kun was very twitchy from the beginning to the end (laughs).
Ueno:Well, at the time, all I could think was, "Oh, there's that cocky little shit again. (laughs). Kappa Yokocho was completely our territory at that time, but of course I didn't feel bad about it, I didn't feel pissed off or anything like that, you know, .......
Nakai:It's like it was never in my mind.

Ueno:Yes, yes (laughs) . (laughs) But that's how it is with local spots. There are people who are on guard there, and that kind of thing. Going back to the story, Sota told you about the shoe tan when you were working for "Supreme," right?
Nakai:Yes , that's right. I couldn't hear it at Kappa. I was thinking, "Hey, hey, Shinpei, your half-cab is so chunky.COFLO BlogBut as I wrote, it was exactly the cab I was looking for. I wonder if Clyde Singleton and others overseas had the same custom (thick shoe tucked in)?
Ueno:There it is. I also thought Ryu-san's (Ryuichi Tanaka: STRUSH WHEEL) half-cab was a bit chunky, and when I asked him about it, he told me that he had put a shoe tongue in it, and I guess that was the beginning. I guess this is something that is passed down from one generation to the next (laughs).
Nakai:At first I was shocked. I had gotten to the point where lumpy = cool, but I had no idea that they had cut the existing tongue and put it in! I was like, "Oh my God! It was similar to the way you make a bank when skating on the street by raising a steel plate and putting a deck between it and the bank.
Ueno:. anyway, because that silhouette with the tan is so austere.
