Pima cotton T-shirt from Peru. The major cotton-producing countries are India, China, and the United States, but Peru is so environmentally conscious that it banned the production of genetically modified crops in 2000, ahead of other countries. Compact yarn, a spinning technique that prevents fluffing, is used to ensure long-lasting wear. Incidentally, although often misunderstood, the texture of organic cotton and cotton fabrics are the same. The difference in texture is due to the twisting and dyeing of the yarn.
