What is Artist Power? Seiko Ito talks about new electric power and lifestyle.

As we live in an era after the Great East Japan Earthquake, it may be a kind of obligation to think about electric power. Minna Denryoku, a well-known renewable energy company, has started a new project called "Artist Power. It claims to be able to purchase electricity produced at artists' power plants while ensuring the traceability of the electricity by utilizing blockchain. Moreover, artists and fans are connected by renewable energy electricity, and together they can protect the global environment while having fun. We interviewed Seikou Ito, who is also the chief of Minna Denryoku and is heavily involved in this project. We went behind the scenes of "Earth Day Tokyo 2021," a special Minna Denryoku sponsored event, where he performed as Seiko Ito is the Poet, and asked him about this project.

It was as much of a shock as when I first discovered hip-hop.

Who put the panel in Fukushima?

We had been talking about where to place the panels, and when Mintendo asked us what we thought about Fukushima, it was a two-way street. Even before that, I had said it would be great to have a renewable energy base in Fukushima after what happened, but I never thought they would make the land available for the panels. Thanks to Minnden for negotiating with us. I think this makes sense as a story. In fact, I have heard people say, "Thank you for putting up the panels in Fukushima," and "Fukushima is the place to be," and I am glad that the story is getting through to everyone.

It is not a story of some distant future, but a story that is happening in Japan today, which gives us hope.

The time when we can say that we will generate electricity privately and buy power from them is coming soon, in 2021. This shock is the same as when I first learned about hip-hop, when I thought, "I'm going to play music on turntables! This shock is the same as when I learned about hip-hop. You scratch it and it makes a sound? That's amazing! It was the same as when I learned about hip-hop. But this is what happens when a system changes. It's the same thing when you have a panel as when you play music with other people's records.

I was able to understand your analogy to agriculture, as I mentioned earlier.

Some people think that electricity is a system, but in the case of solar power generation, each panel is individually wiped and cared for, and the amount of electricity can be changed by tightening screws to change the angle of the panels, so it is no different from agricultural produce in this area. It's no different from producing produce in that respect. It's just like that.

It's nice to be able to see the face of the person making the product. If you can see their faces, you can keep electricity from being corroded.

Usually, I check what the weather will be like tomorrow and decide when I will run the washing machine. If it rains, I also have to think about the electricity consumption of the bathroom dryer. I check the weather forecast when I hang my clothes out to dry, and it's the same with being conscious of whether or not to use electricity. Some people say it's a hassle when it comes to electricity, but it's something we all do on a regular basis.

So you are saying that you use electricity in accordance with nature's workings.

Isn't it important to live in accordance with the workings of nature? If we turn on the faucet and water comes out, we will use it in a lax manner. If we, as sei-katsu-sha, are sensitive to life, we can also be sensitive to nature. Thinking about electricity from a consumer's perspective is no different than a consumer thinking about nature and the weather.
