K.- What was your first impression of Monolith bags when you saw them for the first time?
Miyoshi:I saw a Monolith backpack for the first time in a magazine project. The magazine was comparing various brands of bags, and there were backpacks from outdoor brands and casual sakosh bags, but my eyes immediately fell on the "Monolith" one. I picked one up and thought it would be a good seller.
We have our own brand called "Universal Products" and we make backpacks that can be used both on and off the job. These are our best-sellers. In other words, many customers are looking for backpacks that can be used regardless of the occasion. I also knew that Monolith was of high quality just by looking at it, and I thought it would sell well.
Under the trees:Miyoshi told me about the brand and took me to an exhibition. When I saw it there, I was just amazed at the quality of the workmanship. I think backpacks have a somewhat conservative mood, and carrying them on your back makes you feel a bit like you are working. But "Monolith" has a stylish design and is made with attention to detail, and I felt that I could use it in any case. It has a lot of features that I wish I had in my everyday bag. When I carried it on my back, I didn't feel any inconvenience.

What exactly did you think was good about it?
Under the trees:. I would say that it is able to cope with unexpected situations. For example, the "BACKPACK PRO" has a double-layered zipper that is extremely strong. So even if the zipper is forcibly closed when the contents are overstuffed, it will not break easily. I tend to overpack when traveling, so I am glad to have this feature. Also, even though it is a backpack, the lining is well stitched, and I think it could be used even when turned inside out. I was impressed by that.
Do you still favor backpacks?
Under the trees:Yes, that's right. There are three types of backpacks: "STANDARD," "OFFICE," and "PRO." At first, I preferred the simplest "STANDARD," but now I prefer the "PRO. I made many new discoveries while serving customers, and I realized later that "this is easy to use" (laughs).

Under the trees:At first I thought, what am I going to do (laughs)?
Miyoshi:I didn't realize that . I thought it was very easy to sell.
Under the trees:There were many customers who came to the store after acquiring some basic knowledge of the product and saw the actual product, which led to a relatively smooth purchase. However, for first-time customers, I worried about how to approach the proposal.
How did you clear that up?
Under the trees:. I made suggestions based on the customer's occupation and lifestyle. We asked them if they usually carry a computer with them, and asked them about the bags they use. Many of them were dissatisfied with their regular bags. I told them that "Monolith" can be used in this way.
We heard that the response to the "Monolith" pop-up held at 1LDK AOYAMA HOTEL in June of this year was even greater than expected.
Under the trees:The response was extremely positive. We were very happy to hear from customers in their late 20s and 30s who have already enjoyed various fashions and want to use good quality products for a long time to come. Also, because of its location in Aoyama, it was popular among customers in their 40s and 50s.
Miyoshi:In this day and age, it's not easy to go out and about. So I was a little concerned. When I first took Kinoshita to the exhibition, I was just trying to see if he could appreciate the quality of the products (laughs).

Under the trees:Oh, you were testing me (laughs).
Miyoshi:. But I remember that at the exhibition, he kept saying, "It's really good. When the pop-up started, I found that they really understood the appeal of the items, and it showed in the numbers. I was relieved.
Do you find that many of your customers are satisfied with the details and functions of the products?
Under the trees:The majority of customers did. Many people may feel that this kind of bag is too functional, but in the case of the "Monolith" bag, there were not many people like that.
Miyoshi:. it's not an exaggeration, and it's not over-specified.

Do you mean that the design is well done?
Miyoshi:I think there are many people who would like to design simple but functional bags like the Monolith bags. For example, there are many other brands that have dedicated computer compartments. But in other cases, it looks like a superfluous detail. People add these features because they think they are necessary, but the quality of the final product is not so good. I think there are many people who, when they hold such a bag in their hands, think, "I'd rather not have this. However, in the case of "Monolith," the quality is high, and I feel that it has meaning. In fact, it is easy to use, and the anonymity is preserved because there is no logo on the front. I think that's why it is accepted.
