For 35 years, Onoe has been making BBQ stoves.
Founded in 1948, Onoe was a manufacturer of tin buckets and jars. Thirty-five years ago, the company produced a BBQ stove.
At that time, the only BBQ stoves available were those imported from the US. They were also expensive. Therefore, "Onoe" developed one with Japanese specifications. Using technology cultivated through the manufacture of buckets and jars, the company began mass-producing BBQ stoves to keep prices down so that anyone could afford them.
Based on this user-first corporate philosophy, five years ago we began full-scale production of camping gear. All of our products are perfect in terms of appearance, price, and quality.
I think the best thing about "Onoe" is that it has a good balance. Also, they are all really ingenious. You can tell that the developers actually go camping and incorporate their findings into their products. It really makes you feel that the products are made by people who love camping.
As Mr. Yamada says, all Onoe products are repeatedly tested in the field. That is why they are supported by experts.
I also like designs that have presence but don't make a statement. So they don't get in the way of coordinating the camp site. Black and silver are colors that men would probably like."
One more thing. Onoe's creed in making gear is that "thin is righteous.
As campers have probably experienced before, there are times when the trunk is so cramped that you can't take what you want to bring with you. Considering this trunk situation, Onoe's products are generally compact.
It really doesn't take up much space. You can leave it at home and it won't get in the way. I also want to say one more thing: I think Onoe's gear would probably sell even if we raised the price another 30%. That's how good the quality is. I like the fact that they don't do that.
When the interview was nearing its end, Yamada-san's words, "It's the best without flattery," were strangely persuasive.
