What do you like about Western paintings?
Nauru: I had always had a pure love for Western paintings, but when I went to a bookstore and read a commentary on Western paintings, I found it very interesting. The more I looked into the meaning of the paintings, their historical background, and the individuality of the artists, the more interesting it became, and I have been digging in books and on the computer ever since.
What do you like about Western artists?
Nauru: For example, the artists of Leonardo da Vinci's time, about 600 years ago, were those who continued to verify the unverified. . so to speak, people who had no assumptions to make. So, they studied anatomy, astronomy, and so on, which they used in their accurate sketches of the human body. I have always been the type of person who wonders why the stars shine, but the artists and astronomers of that era were also people who seriously investigated such simple questions, and that's what really touches me. . I love visiting the graves of such artists via street view, and it's the same as getting excited about idols.

The sweatshirt you are wearing today is based on the Mona Lisa, which was created by a graphic artist named Peter Saville.
Nauru: . I thought the graphics were very current and easy to wear. It would be great if these works of art could serve as a gateway for people to become interested in art and, in turn, to visit art museums. . The more you know about art, the more you enjoy it. I also make T-shirts using paintings, and I hope that, like these clothes, they will serve as an entry point to tell the story of the artwork.
. Your commentary on the paintings is just such an entry point, isn't it?
Nauru: I have learned to enjoy commentary through books, and I like to look things up in the library, but in general, the books are all a bit stuffy. We live in an age when the Louvre is also doing Tik Tok, and I thought it would be nice to make the commentary a little more pop and interesting. I do a lot of research beforehand, and when I see a work of art in person, I am really moved by it. For example, if it is a work by da Vinci, you become familiar with anatomy, astronomy, and the period in which the work was created. . Then I am able to see the painting in a three-dimensional way, which is really enjoyable.
