Fukunaga:I thought the functional beauty of the clothes was well expressed. The use of "GORE-TEX" in these clothes made them comfortable to wear. I don't have many festivals now, but I would like to wear it for such occasions.
Do you have any interest in the environmentally friendly GORE-TEX fabrics used in these clothes?
Fukunaga:Clothing that is conscious of the environment has increased considerably. The crisis of the global environment can be felt even in everyday life, can't it? Typhoons are strong, heavy rain falls at odd times of the year, etc. It is important to think about the environment to the extent we can. I think you are sensitive to social trends because you input various things on a daily basis. Do you use this in your songwriting as well?
Fukunaga:It depends on the song. For example, sometimes I am influenced by lines from movies, cartoons, or dramas, or I want to express the atmosphere I experienced at the camp in my music.
You pick up the seeds of ideas for songwriting in your daily life, don't you?
Fukunaga:Not all of them, though. I don't think of music as 100% work. It is something I enjoy. It is an element of input and output in itself. That's how I see it.
Music is not indispensable for a person's life, is it? But on the other hand, there are people who cannot live without it. In particular, I think there are many people who felt the importance of such culture and art after the Corona disaster. How about you, Mr. Fukunaga?
Fukunaga:I think everyone needs to express themselves. For me, it is music, a kind of proof that I am alive. That is why I cannot live without it. I started music because I learned the joy of creating music, and I did not think much about performing or singing in front of others. But now that I am in this situation, I realize that live performance is something I cannot separate from my life.
Q. Is the band highly motivated right now?
Fukunaga:Last year, the tour we had planned was cancelled, and there was a long period of time like a tunnel from there, but I have a desire to release works consistently from now on, and we have a tour coming up in October, so it is getting higher and higher.
After the state of emergency was declared, I did a live broadcast, but it is difficult to get into the mindset of a live performance when there is no audience. After that, I had several opportunities to do live shows with an audience, and even though there were various restrictions, such as the audience not being allowed to speak, just having someone in front of you who is supposed to deliver the message makes a huge difference. Even if you can't hear the cheers, you can definitely feel the reactions. That is why I am really looking forward to the tour in October. I am just concentrating on that right now.
