Wakasagi fishing is often associated with fishing in a hole on a frozen lake and enduring the cold, but it can also be enjoyed in a more casual manner. This time, we boarded a dome boat. The boat is roofed and heated, so no matter how cold or rainy it gets, you can enjoy wakasagi fishing in comfort. The members of this group were excited to be in an environment that was different from their usual fishing.

We boarded the dome boat and arrived at the point. We immediately began preparations. The rod we use is a special electric reel. The approximate depth of the water is displayed and the depth of the dropped hook can be recorded, making it easy to reel up the hook and drop it again at the same range. When a school of wakasagi appear on the fish finder, we drop the hook at that depth.
And the bait is the red tern. In other words, baby flies. The trap we used this time has five hooks, so our goal was to catch five fish at the same time!
After attaching bait and getting started, Mr. Ichikawa immediately got a hit.
Ichikawa:I honestly could hardly tell the bite, and it was like, "Oh, I'm catching fish.
After a while, other members of the group started catching fish!
Ishii:After a few minutes of shaking the line a little and stopping it again and again, I felt something strange on the tip of my ear. I felt something strange on the tip of the rod, so I matched it and reeled it in, and caught one fish (laugh). The pull was weak, so it was better to go for it when the rod moved even a little. Still, it looks delicious.
Jennifer:Glad to hear it! I'm starting to remember what it feels like. Wakasagi are migrating, so timing is important.
Ikemoto:If I feel any change in the movement of the rod, I reel it in anyway. The key to success is to recognize the bite, right? The other thing that seems to lead to good results is to catch fish in a timely manner.
Komatsu:They migrate in schools, so it is interesting that they all catch fish when they can! Fishing is easy with an electric reel because it winds up at the touch of a button. I have to concentrate on catching the faintest of bites, but if I can't catch anything, I can't catch anything, so it's fun to chat with the others!
