College sweatshirts were originally sold as training wear at university co-ops in the United States. Japanese people first became aware of the coolness of these sweatshirts in 1965 with the publication of "Take IVY," a book that documented the fashions and lifestyles of students attending the eight difficult Eastern universities known as the Ivy League. At the time, "genuine" sweatshirts from the local university co-ops and domestic brands such as "VAN" were coveted items for young people, but in the 1990s, secondhand local sweatshirts became a standard item even in secondhand clothing.
Currently, vintage reverse-weave body sweatshirts are gaining popularity and are once again becoming coveted, but essentially, not only the body but also the print is what makes the sweatshirt so appealing. The name of the university, the college colors, and the types of prints, such as stained prints, rubber prints, and flocking prints, may seem simple, but once you start digging into it, you'll find that it is a very deep field.

The key item is a sweatshirt with a realistic faded finish that looks as if it has been tanned on the racks of a thrift store for years. Although the realistic processed look is a favorite of American casual fans , we want to be careful not to make it look wild. Therefore, while choosing a standard B.D. shirt for the innerwear, we chose a broadcloth rather than the Ivy-approved oxford for a clean look. Pants are similarly chosen, with a light color, more resilient and dressier than chinos. The Air Max 95s are on their feet! I saw a snapshot of the Air Max 95s in "Boon!" magazine back in 1995 when they were first released, and I was fascinated by the classic American casual styling of the Air Max 95s.

The most important point of collegiate items is the print. And since it is an item that expresses one's affiliation, it is better to go for a print of a well-known Ivy League institution rather than one of a university or organization that one is unfamiliar with. And for some reason, Ivy League items have excellent print designs. Of course, vintage items have an aura of their own, but they tend to have a bit more difficulty because the necks tend to be worn out or the sleeve ribs are loose, and the silhouettes are different from today's trends. If you are looking for an American casual entry piece, we recommend you to choose a vintage item with a vintage finish.

The sweatshirts produced by "BEAMS" under regular license from each university adopt realistic used processing. While expressing authentic American casual style, the loose silhouette with the shoulders down fits the modern day wear. This is a shirt from the University of Pennsylvania, which is known for having many upper-class students in the Ivy League. The red school color is used for the body, and the print is larger to match the silhouette, adding a modern touch. 13,200 yen (BEAMS Harajuku)
