Taste the sea, mountains, wind, and sounds. The value and potential of the local area as felt at Setouchi JAM.
Let's go on a journey

Savor the ocean, the mountains, the wind, the sounds, all of it.
The value and potential of the local community as felt at Setouchi JAM.

Next year I will travel abroad! That's what we were saying last year, and the future is still uncertain. If that's the case, then it's a good idea to travel to unknown places throughout Japan in 2022. For example, not the seven major metropolitan cities or hot spring resorts, but rather rural areas that you may not see on social networking sites. It is fun to take a leisurely trip and experience the nature that only the countryside can offer, to taste the local cuisine, and to visit local events. Our destination this time was Uno, Tamano City, located in the southern part of Okayama Prefecture. Our goal was to visit Setouchi JAM, a festival that combines the spectacular scenery of the Seto Inland Sea with bouldering and music. During our two days there, we were able to experience firsthand the potential of a regional city.

What kind of city is Tamano?

Uno Station was renovated as part of the "JR Uno Station Minato Line Art Project.
The design is by Vienna-based artist Esther Stocker.

We're finally here!"

My first reaction upon arrival was, "I'm so glad to be here. It was about 700 km from Tokyo Station to Uno Station in Tamano City, our destination, after a five-hour ride on the Shinkansen bullet train and local train.

But the fatigue of a long journey is instantly transformed into enjoyment. Because look at this artistic station design. Doesn't it give off an interesting atmosphere?

As we will enjoy "Setouchi JAM" to the fullest on the second day, we have no plan for this day. We headed to "UNO HOTEL" where we were going to stay for the night to unload our luggage.

UNO HOTELA lifestyle hotel that just opened last July.
Located just a 1-minute walk from JR Uno Station and a 3-minute walk from the Uno Port ferry terminal, it is the gateway to travel in the Seto Inland Sea.

A second surprise 3 minutes after arriving at the station. The hotel is very stylish! The white and gray tones of the rooms, interspersed with wood, are sophisticated yet cozy, with a wifi environment and a large selection of amenities. The balcony overlooks the Seto Inland Sea and the islands that dot the coastline beyond.

Ten minutes after arriving at the station, the anticipation I had felt earlier became a certainty.

After a short break, we started our walk.

The ferry terminal "Uno Port" is located just a short distance from the hotel, and it is possible to go to remote islands such as Naoshima, Teshima, and Shodoshima, which are famous for hosting the Setouchi International Art Festival. The number of services is plentiful, and the round-trip fare is reasonable at around 1,000 yen. On this day, it was evening when I arrived at Uno Station, so I had to pass through the station and regretted a little that I had left Tokyo early in the morning.

Nevertheless, the view of the Seto Inland Sea from "Uno Port" up close is so magnificent and beautiful that it is pleasant just to gaze at it in a daze. I spent a moment of absentmindedness, basking in the clear air and sea breezes.

When the sun had completely set, we finished our walk. After relieving fatigue at the nearby natural hot spring "Tama no Yu" (the Finnish sauna here is also wonderful!), we will have a solemn evening drink at the hotel and go to bed for the next day's event. ), we will have a quiet evening drink at the hotel and go to bed for the next day's events.
