Problems with Japanese housing.
. What made you decide to create a standardized house like this one?
Forest:Overseas, especially in the U.S., people tend to buy houses for sale or used houses rather than custom-built houses. When this is the case, the area is usually zoned and there are various regulations. Like, "You have to have this kind of yard, wall material, exterior walls, and so on. You can tell when you fly down there, the streets are so well organized and nice.
I understand.
Forest:. but Japan is a mess. Some houses use roofing tiles, while others use the old fashioned roofing materials. Subdivisions are often not properly organized, and the houses are just crammed together. In other words, the town is not creatively directed. It is obvious, but the design of a house creates the design of the town, and we are proposing this type of house because we feel that no one directs the design. . So rather than wanting to build a lot of houses, we would like to stress the importance of creative direction to the housing industry as a whole.
It is true that one company cannot do it alone.
Forest:I was invited to give seminars at exhibitions where housing manufacturers gathered, and even there I said all kinds of things. When I said things like, "Please think of your designs as creating the design of this country," I was usually not invited to the next one (laughs).

The workspace can be used to collect items for display and storage, and is a space that is packed with one's hobbies and interests.
Forest:. but, for example, it is the building materials that create the design of the house, so we need to work closely with the building materials manufacturer. In other words, we cannot do it alone. . Therefore, I think it is healthy for players like us to say a lot of things. Also, instead of creating a new design for everything, I think it would be good if there was a little more progress in various fields to create new designs while respecting the good old designs.
You have both a macro and micro perspective. I think it's a great idea and I wish more people knew about it.
Forest:Thank you . However, I feel that the spread is slower than I expected. . I don't know if it's because I'm saying things like I just said, or if it's a problem in the housing industry (laughs). . I hope that, little by little, other homebuilders will follow suit. . I think the big manufacturers are building tens of thousands of houses a year. Compared to that, our scale is still nothing like that.

The open, skipped floor allows the workspace to view both the living room and the garage.
