PROFILE
After gaining experience and studying at various brands, he started "Anselm" in his hometown Okayama for the 2021 SS season. A hard worker.
. This time, we were told that "Wism" was just making a special-order denim at a factory in Kojima, so we were able to visit the factory on short notice. In the months since the two of you met, there has been a dizzying turn of events, hasn't there?
Hori family:Yes, that's right. We first met last October or so, and from there we were able to develop a few fall/winter things, and then first thing after that at the beginning of the year.Sweatshirt special order. followed by in-line denim and more.
You're in love with it anyway.
Hori family:I intuitively thought it was a good idea, but it seems that everyone on the staff thought it was a good idea, too. Some of our staff members like vintage clothes, some like street clothes, and some like designer clothes, but I think this is a strange brand that doesn't seem to belong to any of those categories. By the way, our special-order sweatshirts and denim sold out within a day or two.
Yamachika:We are grateful for that. . This time, I would like to show you the site where denim and sweatshirts are made. First of all, let's take a look at the factory that is in charge of sewing.

. a great number of different kinds of threads , and old-style sewing machines.
Yamachika:Basically, all of the factories I work with are very good, but this one is by far the best among them. I was talking with a staff member of this factory over drinks the other day, and he said, "When clothes are made by a good sewing factory, the threads speak to you" (laughs). (Laughs.) But I have that much confidence.
Hori family:That's a good story. Buyers and customers who like Anselm today buy not because of the designer's background, but because of the quality of the product. I like that.
You mentioned that being placed in second-hand clothing stores was also a big factor, didn't you?
Hori family:Yes, that's right. Secondhand clothing stores naturally look at a lot of secondhand clothing , and they have a discerning eye, don't they? But this [Anselm] denim can't be found anywhere else, and I'm sure they stock it because they have the impression that it can't be found in secondhand clothing either. I think that people at vintage clothing stores look at the clothes themselves, not the brand, and the fact that these people groan when they see these clothes proves how great these clothes are.

The famous "Union Special" sewing machine for hemming.
Indeed. . I think it is quite a hurdle for a secondhand clothing store to put up new items in the first place.
Yamachika:Mr. Horike, you were originally in a vintage clothing store.
Hori family:Yes, I have. I have not been here that long. But I do understand the sharp mindedness of a vintage clothing store, where no two items are alike in the world, and where they offer items that cannot be supplied in a stable manner.
Yamachika:I myself like vintage clothes a lot, and I buy a lot of them, but I don't want to wear something that has been processed to look like vintage clothes. That is why I make denim without beards.

. It may look easy, but it is a task that requires a great deal of skill. Mr. Horie, who took on the challenge, struggled with the degree of difficulty.
Hori family:. So that's why you don't have a mustache. When I first saw Anselm's denim, I couldn't really put it into words. When I think about why, the presence or absence of a mustache may have been significant.
Yamachika:Also, I think the backs of the knees and the like have a different look from so-called faded denim.
Hori family:Just having something like that makes it look instantly different. And that is a very competitive area.
Yamachika:Yes . That's why I intentionally left that part out. When this was first created, I wondered if it would sell. I thought it was cool, but I wondered if people would understand it. I thought it was cool, but I wondered if people would understand it.
Hori family:It's certainly a denim I've never seen before.
Yamachika:. but I don't think you could take this as is to another place and make the same thing. That's how much work it takes.
