After gaining experience as a store staff, she studied under stylist Hajime Suzuki. He specializes in outdoor styling and is active in a variety of genres, including magazines, advertisements, and fashion brand catalogs. He is one of the most active people in the industry and loves the outdoors even in his private life. Recently, she enjoyed sauna, cycling, and gathering wild vegetables at Lake Nojiri in Nagano.

When did you buy your mountain bike?
It was about 3 years ago. Shortly before Corona. Until then I had been riding a beat-up road bike given to me by a senior colleague, so this was the first time I bought one myself.
Do you sometimes drive on mountain roads?
Not a lot, but I ran around Lake Nojiri the other day. I sometimes take it with me on outdoor shoots. It's designed to be used for shooting, and I can just hang out and ride around there in between shoots (laughs). It is also useful for off-road riding, like at the beach today, and just riding on gravel roads is interesting. I'm glad I chose this one, because it expands my range of mobility and play.
Kondo-san, you are often exposed to the outdoors both in your work and private life, but do you usually choose functional clothes?
I tend to be seen that way because of my character, but to be honest, I'm not that way either (laughs). (Laughs). Depending on my mood, I sometimes wear tight-fitting slacks. However, in the sense that the wearer can wear them in various ways depending on the person who wears them, clothes that are fully functional are attractive to me.
Just as running shoes and trail shoes can be worn as sneakers, many sports and outdoor brand items can be used both in town and in the field. In the same way, I thought these boardshorts could be worn not only in town or on the beach, but also at festivals and camping.
What are your thoughts on mountain biking with these shorts on?
Maybe this is what others will say as well, but the stretching works so much better. It was that easy to move around in. If anything, it was easier than the outdoor brand ones I usually wear. I also liked that the waist is banded. Even with my phone in the pocket, it didn't slip out of place at all. I have the impression that these boardshorts are easy to use on a daily basis, with side pockets and a back pocket that is large enough to hold a wallet.
Do you have any styling tips?
Since the design was designed to be as casual as possible, I chose a big-eyed T-shirt and voluminous trail-run shoes for a rough, summery look. Socks are another key point. Just by wearing them, you suddenly look more urban.
In terms of overall balance, I think it is common to match shorts that are unique with other items that are simple, but this time I dared to choose flashy designs for all of them. I think it makes active situations more enjoyable.
Q: Why did you choose navy out of the five colors available?
I liked the faded color of the navy, and if it has the checkered flag, I thought it would be nice to have a playful red and white color scheme. It's the kind of color scheme you'd expect to see in a vintage American item, isn't it?
Incidentally, the reason why the fabric and stitching colors are different is because we kept the details from the time when the product was launched, when we couldn't afford the development costs.
I see. I thought it was just an accent. If you look closely, you can see the old logo of the archive is also used on the tag. I find such a story fascinating, as the item has been loved for more than half a century.
