BIRKENSTOCK MILANO With You

Japanese yew plum pine (Podocarpus macrophyllus var. japonica)Where do you go fishing these days?

Risa YamaiMr. Fukuyama of "Man of M" took me to Tanigawa-dake (谷川岳) , and it was a lot of fun. I remember when my dad went to Hokkaido. . I would love to go with him, but we have different styles, so it would be difficult.

Japanese yew plum pine (Podocarpus macrophyllus var. japonica)Indeed . And I don't have a schedule that fits outside of work.

Risa YamaiWhat did you think when I became an apparel designer?

Japanese yew plum pine (Podocarpus macrophyllus var. japonica)Risa had been going camping with me since she was little, and she also liked clothes, so I thought that someone who had experienced both of those things should honestly follow the path....
Also, Risa's apparel designs are unprecedented, and she is the first company to create something that has never existed before, so in that sense, I think the apparel has inherited Snow Peak's DNA. We are both creative people, so even though we are boss and subordinate in the company, it is nice to get feedback from each other as human beings, whether it is good or bad. . Especially since it's to the essence of what we are doing.

Risa YamaiWe have a head office meeting once a month, and I stay at my parents' house during that time. It is interesting that when the three of us (father, mother, and Risa-san) have lunch and talk about the meeting, the content of our conversation is reflected in the afternoon meeting (laughs).

Japanese yew plum pine (Podocarpus macrophyllus var. japonica)From Risa's point of view, what is your impression of my position?

Risa YamaiHe started a new business when I was very young, so he wasn't around much at home, but since joining Snow Peak, I've come to understand that this is the kind of man he was. " I've been working while holding these thoughts in my heart, and I've been reminded that he's a really good father. He has been working with these thoughts in his mind, providing for his family, and contributing to society, so I realized once again that I have a really good father.

Japanese yew plum pine (Podocarpus macrophyllus var. japonica)That's kind of embarrassing. Since Risa was little, I didn't spend much time at home, so the way to pay the bill for my family was to take her camping (laughs). (Laughs.) Camping allows us to spend quality time together. We could cook things we don't usually cook at home, so I guess that was how we balanced the bill.

Risa YamaiWhen I was little, I only had memories of being taken camping, but as I grew older, I became more sensitive, and when I joined this company, I was able to mesh the essence of camping and the outdoors into my own thinking, and I think that was thanks to the camps that took me camping when I was little.

Japanese yew plum pine (Podocarpus macrophyllus var. japonica)Now that Risa is in her own company and is definitely her own daughter, I'm really glad that she honestly understands those essentials and has incorporated them into her apparel. . Even though she is not my daughter, I am proud of her for bringing in such a new category.

Risa YamaiThey are father and son, but I think they are really close in sensitivity.

Japanese yew plum pine (Podocarpus macrophyllus var. japonica)I think they also gave me a similar creative side, a sense of emotion about nature, and a strong humanistic root. . and also the fact that I like being among people. Well, work can't be done alone, and life is more fun with friends.

Risa YamaiYes . I really appreciate everything (laughs).

How do you feel about wearing "Milano?"

It's very lightweight , and it fits well. They are easy to wear. I have an image that the model I used to wear was much heavier.

What kind of image do you have of Birkenstock?

. I see a brand that is manufacturing products from the user's point of view. Since we, too, started from manufacturing, I feel that we are standing in the same field.

How did you feel when you saw the "Milano" design?

With only two straps, it would be difficult to accommodate active movement, but the back strap is a good idea, as it prevents them from coming off and improves the fit.

What is the point of today's outfit?

Milano" also goes well with a jacket style, so I simply paired it with a highly functional jacket with a durable water-repellent finish and four-way stretch, and denim.

There are many aspects of manufacturing from the user's perspective that should be emulated.

Risa Yamai(Executive Officer, General Manager of Apparel Business Division and Designer, Snow Peak Co.)
The third generation of "Snow Peak" employees, from the founder's grandfather, Yukio, and the current president, Futoshi, through their father, Futoshi, have been involved in the company for generations. In the fall/winter of 2014, Snow Peak launched an apparel business to capture the Japanese outdoor culture through the eyes of a new generation, and to transmit through the filter of fashion the craftsmanship inherited from the "DNA of making what is not there" that Snow Peak has cultivated. The company is now a member of Snow Peak's "What's not there is what is made. Today, he is a pioneer and leader of new endeavors at "Snow Peak".

re_birkenstock_6

How do you feel about wearing "Milano?"

For the past several years, I have been wearing only "Milano" shoes in the summer. The back straps keep them in place whether I'm wearing them on the street or outdoors, and the fit is so good that I'm addicted to them.

What other models have you worn?

It's the "Zurich", a special order with Beams. I like the high hold on the instep and the comfort of the shoes. . Of course, I also own "Arizona" and "Boston.

What do you think of Birkenstock?

Although the simple idea is that they are easy sandals, the ergonomic design is truly from the user's point of view, and I would like to learn from it.

What to wear today

The limited edition "Milano" is navy and brown, so I chose brown for the feet and navy and white for the rest. This jacket is still a prototype, but I would like to actively incorporate Japanese taste into the standard "NORAGI" jacket, as it can be worn with other ordinary outfits.

rice field (usu. large)You've been independent for two years, right?

warehouse overseerYes . It has been 5 years since I met Yukari , and 2 years since I started my own business as a stylist.

rice field (usu. large)What was the first encounter like?

warehouse overseerWhen I was on the road, a senior colleague introduced me to the company.

rice field (usu. large)You didn't want to be a stylist at first (laughs).

warehouse overseerYes, I did. So at first, I helped out in various ways, such as making costumes for newly opened cafes and artists.

rice field (usu. large)I was so busy that I wanted to help the cat, but he did more than help the cat (laughs). (Laughs.) Because he helped me through the tough times, I really felt I could trust him.... So I never thought of him as a mentor or a student, but as a partner who helps me because we are the same age.

warehouse overseerCertainly, I had such a relationship with my so-called sister-disciple, who studied under Yukari before me. My sister-disciple and I have the same even relationship with Ms. Yukari. I think it is Yukari's personality that makes it possible for us to have a relaxed relationship.

rice field (usu. large)To be able to be together forever, we would have to be like a family. After all, work is hard, and if we are not on the same wavelength, it will be tough.

warehouse overseerBut Yukari's mind is very quick, so it was hard for me to keep up with her (laughs). (Laughs.) She is friendly, but she hates to lose, and I thought she had a very human side to her....

rice field (usu. large)Dr. Kuraoka (laughs) is dexterous, and he is an all-around good guy who can do anything. . So, when I have a problem, I don't hesitate to ask him for help. I really look forward to working with you in the future (laughs).

re_birkenstock_10

How do you feel about wearing "Milano?"

They fit really well. Actually, I have flat feet and a thin instep, so regular sandals would come off easily, but these "Milano" sandals have a back strap, so they are adjustable and fit great.

What is your favorite Birkenstock model?

It's the "Arizona" which is all EVA material.

What kind of image do you have of Birkenstock?

. They are the ones you can wear anywhere actively. Since the current fashion trend is a relaxed look, they are a strong ally that can be incorporated from the feet up.

What is the point of today's outfit?

The red pants I purchased this year are my main attire. In the past, heels were usually worn with this kind of style, but this time, I wore Birkenstock shoes to give a toe-curling look.

The evolved summer staple is immediately familiar and comfortable.

re_birkenstock_12

What do you think of Birkenstock?

It is a summer staple that always provides comfort.

How do you feel about wearing "Milano?"

The "Arizona" that I usually wear took a little time for the straps to adjust to my feet, but these "Milanos" fit quite well and comfortably from the start.

What Birkenstocks do you own?

. "Boston" and "Arizona." . They are classic, so they are easy to match with my outfits, and I sometimes wear them instead of room shoes.

What is the point of today's outfit?

Birkenstock itself has a casual look, so I paired it with checked pants. However, it would have been uninteresting to keep it casual, so I decided to go with a "joint" type design and wrapped them around my waist.

CASE3_Allies

We have different careers, but we are friendly competitors. . but at the same age, we are really close allies.

eastern Japan (esp. Kamakura or Edo, from perspective of Kyoto or Nara)We are the same age, but Ayumi is my senior.

middle of a fieldI've been working since I was 13 years old (laughs).

eastern Japan (esp. Kamakura or Edo, from perspective of Kyoto or Nara)But, you know, I didn't look at the magazines that Ayumi was active in at the time... (laughs). . I liked Harajuku-style clothes, so I read different magazines. . So I didn't recognize Ayumi until after we joined the same office.

middle of a field I'd heard we were the same age, so I wondered what kind of girl she was, and I wanted to meet her. In fact, when I met her , she was really just as I had imagined. I thought we seemed to hit it off on our own, but we really did hit it off (laughs).

eastern Japan (esp. Kamakura or Edo, from perspective of Kyoto or Nara)We get along really well (laughs). . I used to work mainly in the entertainment field, mainly in video, so modeling was a challenge for me.

middle of a fieldAlso, video relations are different, like movement.

eastern Japan (esp. Kamakura or Edo, from perspective of Kyoto or Nara)So I had a lot to learn, from posing to everything.... I had a hard time asking questions to senior models because I basically learn by watching, but Ayumi is the same age as me, so I could easily ask her about things that were difficult to ask, and she really helped me out.

middle of a fieldThat's right~. When I first started modeling, I used to copy the moves of older models and watch them in magazines, but it is very difficult to know how to show clothes, style, and facial expressions. I used to study these things at home in front of the mirror. But as an adult, it takes a lot of courage to go out of your way to watch other people being photographed.

eastern Japan (esp. Kamakura or Edo, from perspective of Kyoto or Nara) . there will be times when you will think, "I don't like that.

middle of a fieldBut Asami was totally fine with it.

eastern Japan (esp. Kamakura or Edo, from perspective of Kyoto or Nara)I really appreciated the opportunity to watch the movements at the same site, and I learned a lot since it is not something that can be learned immediately after watching it. . So even though Ayumu is the same age as me, I really feel like he is my senior.

middle of a fieldI see (laughs). (Laughs.) Since Asami has been working in the field of film for a long time, I have learned a lot about how to pose and make facial expressions like that. I tend to move to the sound of the shutter, but you have a very natural flow. I use that as a reference. But I guess it is rare for us to get along so well as adults.

eastern Japan (esp. Kamakura or Edo, from perspective of Kyoto or Nara)When we met, we were both also yoga and Pilates instructors, so we have a lot in common in that sense.

middle of a fieldI wanted to continue modeling for a long time, so I started yoga to get rid of the lack of exercise and to keep my style, but I'm glad I can do it at my own pace.

eastern Japan (esp. Kamakura or Edo, from perspective of Kyoto or Nara)I also feel that Pilates strengthens the inner muscles, and I started as an instructor to deepen my understanding of Pilates a bit more, so I've been doing it for a very long time.... Has your posing changed since you started?

middle of a fieldThe firmness of the torso helps stabilize poses, and when I was nervous, I was able to relieve it with my breathing, so I can use this in modeling as well.

eastern Japan (esp. Kamakura or Edo, from perspective of Kyoto or Nara). I was also told that my neck and décolleté lines have become more beautiful, so I feel that I am making great use of this in my current work.

middle of a fieldI'd like to keep doing yoga because it makes me feel beautiful inside and out, and I can combine my hobby and work with what I love to do, and our relationship!

eastern Japan (esp. Kamakura or Edo, from perspective of Kyoto or Nara)Yeah, I guess so (laughs). I'll keep in touch with you.

re_birkenstock_16

How do you feel about wearing "Milano?"

As with all Birkenstock sandals, they fit me comfortably and the back straps provide good support, making them very easy to walk in.

What is the point of today's outfit?

This time, since I chose the brown "Milano," I dared to choose a dress of the same color. Birkenstock's casual style is also a key point, but I chose a long length dress to make it look more mature and not too childish.

Do you own a pair of Birkenstock sandals?

You have "Arizona" and "Arizona" which are now made of EVA material. I wore them a lot when I was pregnant. They are useful while raising my child because I can quickly put them on even when my hands are full.

What is your impression of Birkenstock?

They are comfortable, of course, but since they are ready to wear, I can also use them when I go to the park nearby. They are not just "neighborhood shoes," but they are fashionable, which I really appreciate.

It matches well with a relaxed yet well-dressed look.

How do you feel about wearing "Milano?"

. First of all, the color is lovely. This is my first pair of "Birkenstock" shoes this season, and they fit my feet well and are easy to walk in. . Maybe it's the back strap, but it makes me feel more stable.

What is your impression of Birkenstock?

. Anyway, sandals that look good on the feet and can be worn by men and women of all ages. We tend to be spoiled by shoes that are somehow easy to wear, but the ideal is to look cool in them. These sandals fulfill that ideal perfectly.

What other Birkenstock models do you own?

I have several pairs, but my favorite is the model in collaboration with German supermodel Heidi Klum. They are monotone in color, with studs and stones on the straps.

What is the point of today's outfit?

The overall look is summery and light-colored. The top is feminine , but the pants are mannish with menswear-like lines. The exquisite balance of the two was achieved with "Milano" for a relaxing look.
