Design secrets you should know.

The clerk said that not only the silhouette but also the design is different. The wide ones are based on the 40's US Army/chino trousers as a design source, and the straight ones are based on the 50's. The wide ones have slanted front pockets, and the straight ones have straight pockets that hug the body.
