HOUYHNHNM's rigid denim is used in this issue to coordinate with the youth and adults of each generation. We hope to unravel the charm of "A.P.C." with Mr. Kaji's story as well.
Kaji: Yes, thank you very much!
HOUYHNHNM's: You yourself are a fan of A.P.C.'s denim, what do you find attractive about it?
Kaji: First of all, the shape. There are not many brands that allow you to choose in such detail according to your taste. The other thing is that you can wear them in a fashionable way.
HOUYHNHNM's: What do you mean by stylish?
Kaji: There are various categories of denim, but I think it is stylish in that it does not fit into any of them. They don't have a design that works like something from a designer brand, nor do they look vintage.
HOUYHNHNM: Without symbols, in a good way.
Kaji: Yes, yes. A.P.C. was probably the first to create such a denim style. . I think that is why denim exploded in popularity in Japan in the 1990s.
HOUYHNHNM: So being minimalist was innovative.
Kaji: Also, before A.P.C. came on the scene, most fashion-conscious people wore American brand denim, but A.P.C.'s interpretation of American-derived denim from a French perspective must have looked fresh.
HOUYHNHNM: This styling with "Jean Standard" is also American in the item itself.
Kaji: Yes, that's right. Coveralls and denim are both workwear, so they would normally be casual.
HOUYHNHNM's: Did you land on this item in a classy way because it is an "A.P.C." item?
Kaji: I think you are exactly right.
HOUYHNHNM: The turtleneck worn as an inner layer is moderately accented.
Kaji: The high-necked turtleneck gives it a delicate, intellectual mood. Also, the overall color palette is monotone, which creates a more subdued atmosphere.
HOUYHNHNM's: It has just the right balance of elegance and casualness, and I think this will be easy for young people to adopt.
Kaji: If young people are going to wear this, I think that if it is too formal, it will give too much of a calculated look. I think it's just right to use casual items as a base, but to be a little taller with turtlenecks and side gore boots.
HOUYHNHNM: I think that if you calculate too much, you may end up looking too good.
Kaji: It is important to calculate, but where do you position yourself between the intentional and the natural? The struggle in that blank space is the fun of fashion, and I think that is what styling is all about.
