I trusted Mr. Kishii and told him what I wanted to do, as if I was revealing some kind of magic trick that I had. He let me be honest with him. . So when we shot that last scene, I was in a hurry, but I was focused. . You can't even predict something like that, so I just left everything to him, and there was nothing I could do. . I just let the camera sit there. As a result, we were able to finish the film in a great way. . That is why this film is really Kishii's film.

I heard that you shot on 16mm film this time. Because it is not an inexhaustible supply of film, unlike digital film, is the tension of the actors, including preparation, different this time?

Miyake:For me, it was my first time shooting on 16mm. I was easygoing and said it was fun and enjoyable during the shoot, but the moment we cranked it up, I realized that the cinematography department had worked really professionally. This is because Okamoto-san, the assistant cinematographer who loaded and changed the film, and Murakami-kun, the second assistant, in particular, hardly laughed during the shoot. They worked with a sense of urgency, knowing that there absolutely must be no mistakes on the film, and at the end of the shoot, they had a big smile on their faces and looked completely liberated. Ah, it was thanks to these people.

I am speaking on behalf of the photography team now, but the same goes for all the other staff members. We were not in an environment where we could re-shoot, so we had to think about what to do with every single little thing that appeared on the screen. They worked with an unbelievable level of intensity and concentration, and I think that the accumulation of their efforts, shot by shot, finally resulted in a great film.

Kishii:Loading film is a really nerve-wracking job, isn't it?

Miyake:It was a very nerve-wracking job. I am very happy that Okarin Okamoto-san, who is not a veteran but a member of the upcoming generation, or perhaps the youngest of the film crew, was able to accomplish this task with such aplomb.

In the official interview with Mr. Miyake for this film, he said that movie theaters are a special place, and that it is in movie theaters that we see things that we might miss in our daily lives. Of course, do you want people to see this film in theaters?

Kishii:That's all there is to it. . Since it was made as a movie, I want you to see it in a movie theater.

Miyake:Definitely yes.

As a director and an actor, I assume that both of you have been exposed to various media formats such as television and other video works. Are you aware of these formats?

Miyake:In my case, I became aware of it thanks to the various formats I was allowed to work in. And I would venture to say that movie theaters are the best (laughs). For example, ramen noodles from famous restaurants sold in supermarkets are good in their own way, and some of them may surprise you. . However, I believe that the best ramen is the real thing that you taste when you go to a restaurant.

Kishii:The sound geeks have made this film in such a way that it will be seen in a movie theater, and they have also calculated the sound. The best place to showcase the advantages of 16mm film is in a movie theater. I feel that when you leave the theater after seeing this film, your eyes will change the way you look at the scenery in your daily life.

Miyake:Mr. Kishii also likes movies, and it seems that going to the cinema is already a habit of his. I asked him, "How do you manage to do that even though you are so busy? I asked him how he does it, and he told me that he usually runs (laughs).

Kishii:Literally, I'm really running (laughs). . how many times have I run up and down the stairs of a movie theater? I was finished filming somewhere and thought I might be able to get there, so I looked it up on my phone and saw that it was 45 minutes from here, but I asked the cab driver if he could get me there in 43 minutes. I asked the taxi driver if he could take me there in 43 minutes. I always check the trailers and such in advance, and I always run to make it in time for the film.
