This area has long been home to independent stores and eateries, and has been a trend-setting area in Hokkaido. Even though the landscape of the city has changed drastically, this area has remained inviolable and has been cherished by the locals. South 2 West 8" opened 20 years ago in such an area.
In the words of Mr. Shimizu (representative of Nepenthes), opening a restaurant in this location was "inspiration. He found the property by chance while walking around, and liked the distance from the downtown area and the presence of the building , and decided to open a restaurant.
A stuffed deer adorns the approach past the store's entrance, and the store's open atrium ceiling is decorated with stuffed animals, dried flowers hanging from the ceiling, and an archive of hunting clothes and backpacks. The store has undergone several major renovations, and the current layout embodies the "South 2 West 8" philosophy and the richness of Hokkaido's natural environment.
