Shonan International Marathon

Each Shonan International Marathon.
VOL.2 What the runners felt throughout the event.

The Shonan International Marathon has been one of the most popular marathons in Japan, and in 2022, the marathon will be held with runners carrying their own bottles, making it an opportunity for runners to become more environmentally conscious than just finishing the race in a time. What were the thoughts of the runners who entered the Shonan International Marathon, and what style did they use to run the marathon? We asked the runners on the day of the marathon what they thought of the marathon and what style they chose to run it.

Tragedy and Joy. Looking back on the Shonan International Marathon.

Finally, we asked Mr. Kuroyanagi, who unfortunately had to abandon the race, and Ms. Yamamoto and Mr. Makino, who finished the marathon with flying colors, to reflect on the Shonan International Marathon this year.

The homey atmosphere saved my life.

I'm frustrated . That's the only word I can use to describe my frustration. I wasn't feeling well before the start, and my arms and legs started to go numb after 20 kilometers, so I thought, 'This is not good,' and I slowed down my pace. I thought about walking to the finish line, but decided to abandon the race after 32 kilometers to save my life.

I have put in a good amount of running in preparation for today. . I have a sense of pride that I used to take running seriously as a competitor. . Perhaps that led to my pride that I would be able to run a full marathon.

I am disappointed with the result, but the Shonan International Marathon was a wonderful event, and the kindness of the volunteer staff and the at-home atmosphere really helped me feel better. I hope to be in perfect condition for the next race and make up for it.

Great view and course. My bottle is a good thing too!

My first Shonan International Marathon was a lot of fun! The road along the sea was a series of spectacular views, the sea breeze was pleasant, and the course was generally flat and easy to run. After the first turnaround, Mt! Fuji! It was a great marathon experience that kept me going from start to finish.

The My Bottle system is also great! I ran with a sack on my back and put my own bottle in the front pocket. I could drink when I wanted to, and it was cleaner because there were no paper cups littering the streets, which is really a good thing. I didn't feel like I was losing time by drinking water. I hope this initiative will spread to other marathons as well! (Masami Yamamoto)

A wonderful convention full of hospitality.

. "My goal this time is to lead a senior employee of my company to a sub-4 finish. . It is a very important mission for me personally, since he is my direct supervisor. The result was a sub-4 in an impressive manner! Senior, it was a great run. Now I guess I have high expectations for my next assessment (laughs). . By the way, I ran while inspiring not only my seniors but also the runners around me, saying, "If you follow me, you can make sub-4! I hope I was helpful to as many runners as possible.

I have experienced many marathons, and what I found attractive about the Shonan International Marathon this time was its friendly atmosphere. In most marathons, there are always a few runners who try to be the first to fill their water tanks, and the atmosphere tends to become rather bleak. . But in the case of this marathon, there are many water stations, and everyone is very humble because they go and get their own water. I was reminded once again that this is a wonderful event full of hospitality, including the warmth of the volunteers! (Hideaki Makino)
