Adidas Originals Low Suit Reissue! How do deep sneaker freaks see it?

adidas Originals' "Low Suit," which was born during the high-tech skate movement of the late 1990s, has been reissued in collaboration with ATMOS! What do deep sneaker freaks who know the street scene of that time in real time think of this model? Hiroaki Shimono of WHIZLIMITED, Yusuke Kusaga of PLAYGROUND, and Kentaro Kamaya of BAL discuss.

What is the appeal of low suits from the sneaker freak's point of view?

- What are your favorite adidas models from the mid to late 1990s?

Kusaga:I like all kinds of skee-shooters. Adimatic" is one of them. When it was reissued last year, I couldn't buy it because I failed the lottery for "Atmos" (laugh). . . but above all, I like "Norton," which was later succeeded by "Low Suit.

Lower field:I remember "Norton" from the late 1990s, when people dressed in fashionable outdoor brand clothing wore them on their feet at flea markets in Yoyogi Park or on the rooftop of Tokyu Corp.

Kusaga:Ah, I know, I know. There were people like that, weren't there . It wasn't just people who liked sneakers, but people who liked vintage clothing and other fashions that they liked to wear.

Lower field:. I got the impression that select store clerks wore them a lot.

Gamaya:Norton" was a favorite of mine, too. At the time, I liked not only "Norton" shoes, but all Adidas shoes in general, and I bought many of them.

Kusaga:I loved "Norton" so much that I bought them whenever I found them at thrift stores, even if they weren't my size. I would buy them even if they were not my size, and if they were bigger than my size, like a US 11 or 12, I would tie them up tight and strut around the streets of Shibuya showing off (laughs).

- Kusaga-san, you said that the "Norton" and "Low Suit" are your favorite shoes from the "adidas Originals" collection.

Kusaga:The three stripes are thick, and the form is fat and voluminous. . I guess that's it. I have always loved shoes for action sports such as skateboarding and BMX, which were born in this era.

- Such a "low suit" is now being reissued. How do you think it is done? What are your impressions of the reissued version?

Kusaga:Today I brought the original from back then. I just couldn't let this one go. I think it's quite well done in comparison.

On the left is the 1998 original (Kusaga's personal possession) , on the right is the reissued version scheduled to be released in January 2024.

Gamaya:That's good. I don't think that the original is everything. Original or reprinted, as long as it's cool, I'm fine with it.

- There are two colors available, which do you prefer?

Gamaya: I think I am beige.

Kusaga: . well, beige is nice, but I'm a black person.

Lower field: Did we used to have orange ,? If there was, I'd like that. If I had to, I personally prefer the fat shoe laces like they used to have.

Gamaya: Indeed! It looks like it would go well with fatshoe laces. . also, I like that they both have black outsoles. You don't have to worry about matching them, and they're not too expensive, so they might appeal to younger kids who like "samba". It's like the next best option for low-tech shoes.

Kusaga: . it's possible to replace them with fat shoe laces. . In those days, people used to go out of their way to replace them. Also, the "Adimatic" has become much more popular, so I think I'll be able to get into that trend as well. Whatever the case may be, I am happy that my favorite sneakers are being reissued. I can't wait for their release.

adidas Originals "Low Suit" ¥15,400 each
Scheduled to be released on January 27, 2024.
