. I like clothes that make me feel comfortable at any time of the day.
The North Face Purple Label" pursues outdoor wear in the city by focusing on nature in the city, from grass and trees in parks and along roadsides to rain and building winds.
The mountain parka is one of The North Face's masterpieces and has been a staple item since the brand's birth. The mountain parka is made of 65/35 bay head cloth, a high-density blend of recycled polyester and organic cotton spun at a ratio of 65:35. The "65/35 bay head cloth" garment has its origins in the outdoors.
Wearing the brand's clothes, Kaho strolled around Yoyogi Uehara, a town she says she is familiar with, and its surroundings. In line with The North Face Purple Label's key concept of "documenting nature in the city," we asked Kaho to record the city and its natural surroundings in her photographs.
How was it, walking around the city and taking pictures?
Summer Sail: It was like between work and private life. . actually, I was really looking forward to today's shoot. This mountain parka was exactly the item I wanted. I like to wear a larger size, so I was torn between a M or L, but the men's M was just right for me.
Oh wow! (I'm so glad to hear that .
Summer Sail: It seems like it will be more useful than a down coat for a longer period of time, and it is also good for the change of seasons when the temperature is unstable. . I am an outdoor wear type of person who can use outerwear with gusto.
Why is that?
Summer Sail: . I like things that are not stressful to wear. For example, if I have to walk a lot or it suddenly rains, I choose functional and comfortable clothes that will allow me to relax in the most natural way no matter what the situation is. I even change the insoles of my current favorite sneakers to ones that are comfortable to walk in (laughs).
. - Kaho's ingenious idea, very practical. This mountain parka has a water-repellent finish on the fabric, so I think it will work well in the rain or outdoors.
Summer Sail: I don't use an umbrella in a little rain (laughs), so I'm glad that it is water repellent. When I actually tried it on, I found it to be very lightweight , and I like that it has many pockets to hold various things. . As a matter of fact, I was carrying a paperback book by Banana Yoshimoto in it today.
You seem to be using it well. What about the design aspect?
Summer Sail: It's designed to look nice as a thing, and it fits in with both the city and nature. It feels like a partner because I can wear it anywhere, anytime, and it seems to fit in with me every time I do.
. It was a very good look on you. I heard that the area around Yoyogi Uehara, where you shot this time, is a familiar place for you, Kaho , what do you like about it?
Summer Sail: There are many stores and Yoyogi Park is very nice , I have been going there since I was a teenager. . I also like the location where I can go to Shibuya via Okushibu.
. We visited several spots, but the karaoke box shoot was added after a staff meeting where we talked about "Brush Up Your Life," which aired early last year.
Summer Sail: The scene in the karaoke box in that piece, it appears many times and is very impressive. . But actually, I don't go to karaoke very often in my private life. Even if I do occasionally go, I tend to listen to the music rather than sing....
What do you usually do on your days off?
Summer Sail: . I don't get out of my own living area very often. Including work, I visit many places in Tokyo, but I don't often move from the location. . However, I think Tokyo is a fun place to visit because there are many interesting places. . Lately, I've been interested in Kuramae and areas to the east where there are many coffee shops and galleries.
Do you take walks? The North Face Purple Label" has a line called "stroll," and walking is something that the brand is very familiar with.
Summer Sail: I often do this when I travel. I believe that I can learn a lot about a city by walking around it.
I see that you like to travel.
Summer Sail: Yes, I like it very much . Travel is my motivation for my work. When I travel, I actively explore the city and visit museums. . If I had some time off now, I would like to go to Scandinavia.
. When I think of Scandinavia, I have an image of windy and cold weather because it is surrounded by the sea.
Summer Sail: Yes, that's right. . so I was just looking for an outerwear that would protect me from the wind. . Today was a windy day, so this mountain parka was reliable. . When I pick out clothes these days, I think, "I can take this with me on my trip.
. During the photo shoot, you documented the cityscape and nature in the form of photographs. You used a personal film camera, but do you like photography?
Summer Sail: I used to take pictures with a Contax camera when I was a teenager, but I haven't taken many lately. But when I walk around with a camera, as I did today, my perspective on the city changes.
What did you shoot today?
Summer Sail: What did I take pictures of ... I think I was taking pictures at a moment's notice. I usually did not take pictures even when there was nature, but it was fun to capture the moments I thought were nice. If you are conscious of it, there is nature in the city of Tokyo. . but maybe not as much as I would like. When I went to Taipei last year for an exhibition of my photo book, I was surprised to see how many parks there were.
Speaking of the photo book, was it made before you reached a certain age , and have you had any changes in your mindset since then?
Summer Sail: It's not so much that I have changed, but more and more when I get a job, people tell me that they saw my photo book and asked me to do it , and that's what I've been doing. . I am not on social networking sites, so now I realize that it has become like my business card.
It took you two and a half years to make it, didn't it?
Summer Sail: Yes, it was a great experience for me. Usually I am passive in my work, trying to figure out what to do with what I am given, but the production of the photo book was a great experience for me because I was able to give my opinion from the planning stage.
Kaho, it has been 20 years since you started working as an actor last year. What kind of challenges would you like to take on in the future?
Summer Sail: There are still many genres of work that I have never done before, and even though I have been doing this for such a long time, there are still things that I don't know, so I would like to try new things. I am gradually becoming aware of my strengths and weaknesses, but I don't want to be too bound by them.
