STANDARD ITEM OF CURLY

We report on three standard items that symbolize CURLY: high quality materials and delicate workmanship.

CURLY is a rare brand that constructs all kinds of items using cut-and-sewn fabrics. CURLY's unique sense of design, which allows its unique clothing to blend naturally into the modern fashion scene, as well as its outstanding craftsmanship, has attracted a great number of people. In this issue, we pick up three items that can be considered as "CURLY" standards. We will delve deeper into the brand's appeal with an interview with the designer, Mr. Ito, and styling suggestions.

STANDARD ITEM 01_RAFFY ZIP PARKA

The sweatshirt parka is a classic cut-and-sew item. Curly, well aware of the appeal of cut-and-sew, has developed its own fabric and created a sophisticated form that sets it apart from conventional sweatshirts.

RAFFY ZIP PARKA ¥16,800+TAX

This is a standard zip-up parka that has been released with updates since the first season. What is noteworthy is the flowing form of the lines that have been stripped down to the bare minimum. The collar contributes to this. It stands firmly even when the front zip is opened, maintaining a beautiful line from the body to the hood. In addition, the fabric knitted using high-strength extra-long staple cotton is very elastic and resilient, creating a comfortable fit and contributing to a beautiful silhouette. This fall/winter model here uses a sheep raised back fabric that is highly heat-retentive and comfortable to the touch. Other details such as YKK's EXCELLA double zipper on the front are also carefully crafted.

Interview With Designer

Can you tell us how you came to plan this item?

Designer Ito ( , Ito)When I started the brand, I wanted an item that would serve as the axis of the brand. When I thought about it, I thought a zip parka, which has always been in my wardrobe for many years, would be appropriate. I had worn a variety of parkas and had an ideal image of what I wanted. Then I came across this soft and fluffy fabric, and I thought that if I could finish it with our sewing technology and patterns, I would be able to create what I envisioned.

What is it that you are looking for in a sweatshirt parka?

Ito.I think it is necessary to have a sense of fabric and size that fits in with all kinds of coordination and situations. It is also important to create a three-dimensional silhouette when the garment is worn.

The zipper is specially ordered from EXCELLA, which is known as the highest grade of YKK. The brand name is engraved on the top of the zipper.

Please tell us about the points you were particularly particular about.

Ito.We have devised a way to maintain a beautiful silhouette even when worn with the front open. For the zipper, we used a custom-made zipper made by YKK's top-class "EXCELLA". The slider is thin so as not to be too assertive, but small enough to be easily raised and lowered for better catching. The sliders are thin so that they do not make too much of a statement, yet they are small enough to be easily raised and lowered, and the sliders are thin enough to be easily raised and lowered, yet they are small enough to be caught. Since we have polished each and every bug, it glides well, and together with the slider, it is even more comfortable to use.

To maintain the beautiful silhouette of the hood, a patch of fabric is applied around the neck, and the pattern and size are thoroughly focused on.

What is the biggest difference between your sweatshirts and other sweatshirts?

Ito.It's the rise of the hood and the bulge of the fabric when worn.

It is an excellent fabric that is resilient and pleasant to the touch. What difficulties did you face in developing it?

Ito.We were able to procure a unique yarn with a strong, even texture, but the machines that knitting factories usually have in stock could only produce a knit that was either too stiff or too loose. However, after much effort, we were able to find a machine that could produce just the right elasticity and softness as we had imagined. It is probably the only machine of its kind in Japan.

The back of the zipper has a turnover as seen on jackets. This allows the zipper to fit neatly when the front is open.

What is the secret of your beautiful silhouette?

Ito.By attaching a turnover usually used for jackets and the like, we have tried to make it fit better even when worn with the front open. Another key point is that the edges are sewn without using an iron as much as possible to create an angular look.

It is available in two different shades of gray grains.

Ito.Both of the coarse gray grains are impressive, but they have completely different atmospheres. We could not discard either, and came to the conclusion that we would adopt both.

RAFFY ZIP PARKA ¥16,800+TAX, MAZARINE ST TROUSERS ¥18,500+TAX, BLEECKER LS SHIRTS ¥16,500+TAX

This is a plain sweatshirt parka, but the high quality material and attention to detail make it a star item that looks great even when worn alone. In order to enhance it, the other items are coordinated in a simple way. However, to keep it from becoming too mundane, we added some spice with western boots on the feet. The depth of the pocket that allows even such impactful Western boots can be said to be one of the charms of this sweatshirt parka.

On the next page, we introduce a set-up made of cut-and-sewn material.
