Outside Aki Kaurismäki's Kino Laika cinema, as seen by Yorisua Oshima.
Travelling to the theatre

Yoria Oshima saw it,
Outside Aki Kaurismäki's Kino Laika cinema.

The film "Kino Laika: Cinema in a Small Town" will be released on December 14. Kino Laika is a movie theater co-created by filmmaker Aki Kaurismäki in the Finnish country town of Karkkila. Yoromoa Oshima, who designed the film, actually visited the cinema and was impressed by its splendor, which was not depicted in the film. In this issue, we will explore the appeal of "Kino Laika" from a different perspective than the movie, based on photos taken by Mr. Oshima of the site and his realistic impressions.

Mr. Oshima obtained it from "Kino Laika".

Here are some of the souvenirs entrusted to Mr. Oshima by the owner, Mika! The gifts include about 20 pieces of original "Kino Laika" goods and publications related to the town, including an A2 poster, which made the trip home a bit difficult, but they are gifts overflowing with love. Some of the items will be displayed at the screening of the film, so please look forward to them.

SOUVENIR LINEUP

Black T-shirts (25€), hoodies (40€) and caps (32€) with the logo are sold at the cinema kiosks.

Photo above: Original craft beer sold at the cafe. The Japanese phrase "I'm feeling great, I'm in great shape" is also available. About 8€. Kino is the name of the movie, and Laika is the name of director Kaurismäki's former dog.

In addition to the postcards (3€) sold at the kiosk, there are many items not for sale, such as notepads, ballpoint pens, and stickers. It is hard to find a movie theater in Japan that makes so many original products.

Publications published by Kaurismäki's production company "Sputnik!" are sold at the kiosk. Books include the writings of Mika, the poet and co-owner of "Kino Laika" (10€).

Knitting kit to make socks (36€). Finland has a cold climate and a culture of knitting.
