I was drawn to the rich, textured look of JIL SANDER’s new collection. I was told that the trousers are made from multifilament yarn and finished with a gesso treatment.
Malfile yarn is a type of cotton yarn with varying thicknesses, offering a rustic texture and a soft feel against the skin. While it can certainly be considered a type of fancy yarn, like slub or neppy yarns, Malfile yarn stands head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to its softness.
Gesso treatment is a well-known priming technique in the art world, and in the textile industry, it produces a textured finish.
The reason it pairs so well with knitwear is that the texture has a gentle gradient.
