The vintage boom is sweeping the globe. Among these trends, Japan—home to many enthusiasts and shops with a keen eye for style and deep knowledge—is attracting attention as the epicenter of this movement. A fashion event aimed at promoting Japan’s vintage culture both domestically and internationally, and establishing Tokyo as one of the world’s five major fashion weeks, “Tokyo Vintage Fashion Week" will be held at Shinjuku Triangle Plaza for three days starting this Friday.
The spacious venue is filled with a vintage clothing market. From "Berberjin" and "Himself"—familiar names to Fuinam readers—to "Jantique" “Moo,” “Pitz,” “Comp,” and “Epoch”—a diverse lineup of about 100 unique stores has gathered here, all under the umbrella of “vintage.” This is a perfect opportunity for vintage enthusiasts to see items from shops all over Japan all in one place.
And the highlight is a fashion show that presents the historical context and stories behind vintage clothing as a style. On Friday the 13th,Harada Gakudaughter (of a good family)eriA look featuring standard vintage clothing—the kind found in typical vintage shops and worn on a daily basis—by [Name]. On Saturday the 14th,Yoko MiyakeThe designer will present a look featuring "future vintage" items that are expected to gain in rarity and cultural value over time.
Finally, please take a look at the statement.
Until now, Fashion Week has primarily promoted “newly created items” as trends. We are introducing a new approach: “infusing traditional designs with a contemporary twist.” Our goal is to redefine the ever-growing volume of vintage clothing not merely as a market or object of consumption, but as “the next big trend.” To achieve this, we have chosen the “runway” format, which allows us to present vintage clothing not as individual items, but as a complete aesthetic that encompasses styling, mood, and historical context.
When designs from the past encounter the sensibilities of the present, they evolve once again toward the future. This isn’t just about objects. Clothing exists as “works of art” that embody the stories of their era—its culture, context, and the sentiments of the people. And the clothing created today is also a work of art that lies along the continuum woven from the past. “The moment when the ”past“ becomes the ”future.’” We hope you will come to the venue and enjoy a new fashion experience. Through this initiative, we aim to present new values that bridge the past and the future, and propose a vision for the future of fashion.
