The film "Unleash the Cat" is currently being screened at "Eurospace" in Shibuya, Tokyo. This is the first feature-length film by director Taisuke Shigaya, who previously directed "Haru Sentaku" and "Windows", and took about seven years to complete.
The present of a couple who have crossed paths, and a reunion with a friend that shakes memories of the past. The film is a story about people who are drawn to the past but searching for the outline of "happiness" in the present. The Tokyo screening will end this week, but a spin-off event "Minna de nanika wo tsukumakeru" will be held on June 6 (Sat) to enjoy the world of the film from multiple perspectives.
The core of the event will be an exhibition of photographs taken by director Taisuke Shigaya himself during the seven years of production, as well as poems and illustrations inspired by the film. In the evening, there will be live performances by soma, who starred in the film, and mmm, who wrote the ending song, as well as a DJ performance by VIDEOTAPEMUSIC.
An original zine on the background of the film's production and its process, rewoven under the theme of "record and memory," will also be available for sale. Director Shigayan himself will be on hand to sign copies of his book.
The screening ends this Friday, June 5, so check it out if you haven't already. The event will be full of content, presented from various angles for the enjoyment of both those who have seen the film and those who have not. Please visit the venue.
