A three-piece band from Enoshima that plays earthy psychedelic music, maya ongaku. With a sound that fluidly moves between ambient, folk, jazz, and psychedelic rock, they have captivated many listeners.
Their long-awaited second album, *Nothing Space Music*—their first in three years—is finally complete! Ahead of its release on August 7, the lead single, *Astral Echoes" is now available for streaming.
Formed in 2021 in a seaside village on Enoshima, the trio maya ongaku consists of Tsutomu Sonoda, Ryota Takano, and Shoei Ikeda. They are a diverse collective of local musicians who play earthy psychedelia that transcends the roots of the soul. The name is not derived from ancient civilizations but is a neologism meaning an imaginary landscape beyond one’s field of vision.
The album features a total of eight tracks that focus on “silence” and explore a more introspective and profound sound. It will be released worldwide as a joint effort between “Bayon Production” and “Guruguru Brain.”
Finally, please take a look at the self-written liner notes.
In Honor of *Nothing Space Music*
I wonder when it started.
When I listen to the sound, it seems to have obscured what should be there
That's when I started thinking about that silence.
Fortunately, through our work so far, we’ve been able to share our music with many people around the world.
However, every time a loud noise rang out, the presence of the silence that should have been there gradually built up inside me.
This album is an attempt to reimagine the silence that has accumulated in my heart as music.
I suppose we probably needed that.
During the creative process, the concept of a space called “Nothing Space” began to take shape in my mind.
It is not mere nothingness, but a vast expanse where memories of the past, present, and future—memories of all time—float.
The sense of boundaries dissolved, and it was a place where the sky and the sea, yin and yang, sound and silence—all of it—blended together seamlessly.
If there were music that erased the boundary between sound and silence, what would it be like?
As I continued creating while grappling with that question, I came to realize that *Nothing Space* is this very world in which we live.
Boundaries and divisions exist in this world.
However, I hope that experiencing our music will help break down the various boundaries that exist in this world,
I hope this will serve as an opportunity to take a fresh look at things.
