Intricate pointillist paintings that convey a sense of renewal and hope. Artist GOMA’s solo exhibition will be held at Goldwin.

An artistic expression that visualizes not the reproduction of visible landscapes, but rather indescribable sensations, memories, and the deepest recesses of the inner self.

An immersive exhibition featuring artist GOMA’s pointillist works—which he has continued to create—along with textile pieces, didgeridoo soundscapes, and video installations will be held at the Goldwin Headquarters’ first-floor event space from Friday, July 3, through July 28.

Mr. GOMA is a player of the didgeridoo, a traditional instrument of Australia’s Indigenous peoples, and is known as Japan’s leading expert in this field. Just as he was expanding his activities not only in Japan but also on the world stage, he developed a higher brain dysfunction following a traffic accident in 2009.

While forced to take a hiatus from his activities and grappling with confusion in his memories and shifts in his consciousness, GOMA repeatedly saw a “world of light”; his current series of pointillist works was born as he sought to capture those visions on paper.

The title of the solo exhibition is “The World of Light—A Changing World, Unchanging Light.”

The phrase “Unchanging Light” in the subtitle embodies a gaze toward the hope and possibilities that continue to shine within us, never to be lost even in the face of change or loss.

<GOMA氏コメント>
When people are in nature, they are reminded that they are part of a greater flow. The “light” I depict is not merely something visible to the eye; it is a presence connected to human memories, emotions, and the very beginning of life. In the title of this exhibition, “The World of Light—A Changing World, Unchanging Light,” I have expressed the idea that even as eras and landscapes change, the precious sensations and primal landscapes deep within the human heart remain unchanged.
I feel there are common threads between the connection to nature and the experience of nature through the body—values that Goldwin holds dear—and the world I express through my work. I would be delighted if this exhibition becomes an opportunity for you to encounter the quiet light within yourself and discover new sensations.

As part of the exhibition program, a talk session featuring film director Momoko Ando—a close friend of GOMA—is scheduled for Saturday, July 18, at 6:00 p.m. The event will also include a mini-concert by GOMA, making this a special program that allows visitors to experience his artistic world from multiple perspectives alongside the exhibited works. (*Advance registration is required for the talk session and mini-concert. Please check the special website for details and registration instructions.)

The heartfelt cry of a man who has made a miraculous comeback is sure to inspire you to take a fresh look at your own senses and potential. Please come to the venue and experience the world of light for yourself.
