A project to which Ryuichi Sakamoto devoted the last four years of his life. “Ryuichi Sakamoto & Tin Drum | KAGAMI+” is currently on stage.

A work titled “,” which captures Ryuichi Sakamoto’s piano performance in three dimensions and reconstructs it in a mixed reality (MR) space, “Ryuichi Sakamoto & Tin Drum | KAGAMI+" is the cultural installation at "Grand Green Osaka Umekita Park" titled "VS." is currently playing at [location].

This work is a project conceived and produced by Tin Drum—led by Ryuichi Sakamoto and Todd Eckert—over the final four years of Sakamoto’s life. Since its premiere in New York in 2023, it has been performed around the world—including in London, Manchester, Taipei, Singapore, Melbourne, Italy, and Hong Kong—and has garnered widespread acclaim.

The experience involves wearing a transparent headset and watching Ryuichi Sakamoto as he plays a grand piano recreated using proprietary 3D imaging technology. Fantastical 3D visuals that resonate with the music come to life, allowing viewers to immerse themselves in the performance from a distance that would be impossible at a live concert. Furthermore, the venue is designed to stimulate the senses on multiple levels, with video, photography, and text complemented by a scent blended by Sakamoto himself that fills the space.

On Friday, September 11, during the exhibition, a special event titled “New Balance Day” was held. Ryuichi Sakamoto, with whom we have shared a commitment to craftsmanship and have collaborated on numerous works and products since 2003, andNew Balance.. New Balance has previously sponsored exhibitions such as “Ryuichi Sakamoto | Seeing Sound, Hearing Time” at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo and “sakamotocommon OSAKA 1970/2025/Osaka/Ryuichi Sakamoto,” which was held last year.

Appearing as an ambassador that day was WONK’sFumitake Ezaki. He gave an impromptu performance inspired by the artwork. In addition, the official store is displaying the New Balance shoes that Ryuichi Sakamoto used to wear. They will reportedly remain on display until the end of the exhibition.
