The gallery in Ebisu, which continues to present remarkable exhibitions based on its unique context and aesthetic sense, is calledPOSTThe "M" is the name of the place where the "M" is located. Many people may have seen or learned about books, artwork, and other items for the first time at this location.
This year, the first exhibition in Japan, "AUTOROUTE," by Sylvia Bataille, born in France in 1963, will be held.
The works, which at first glance could be mistaken for photographs, use the mezzotint technique, a copperplate engraving technique that allows for easy color gradation, and depict automobiles and other vehicles in a unique framing style.

These landscapes, centering on fast-moving cars, have been a motif that she has been creating continuously since 2005 to accurately express her mental landscape, which is close to fetishism.
The work is almost maddening in its meticulous depiction, the swell of the tires, and the amount of time and effort required to create it, which is frightening to imagine.
The artist will be present at the opening on Tuesday, January 23.

Sylvia Bataille
Born in France in 1963. In addition to mezzotint etchings, he also works in photography and illustration, and was awarded prizes of excellence at the Chamalières Triennale in 2010 and the Saint-Maure Estam Biennale in 2011. Recent exhibitions include [mezzotints and pinhole photographs /Galerie Univer] (2017) and [mezzotints /Library National de France] (2015).
