'Even people who buy a new jacket only once every five or ten years eat three meals a day. If we really want to protect our planet, we start with the food we eat."
The above are the words of Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia. In order to embody this desire, we launched in 2012 [Joon].PatagoniaPatagonia Provisions, the food business of Patagonia, Inc.
Mussels in olive oil ¥993 in TAX each, 3 kinds pack ¥2,851 in TAX
The company currently offers 13 food products in five categories, including soups, salmon, beer, etc. The newest addition to the line is mussels in oil.
There is a good reason why mussels are used. Because mussels grow quickly while filtering the surrounding seawater, they are one of the least damaging to the environment, yet one of the most nutritious marine products. Also, because they are at the bottom of the food chain, they contain very little mercury in marine life. Conversely, organisms at the top of the food chain contain higher levels of mercury. This means that there is less harm done to the body.
Patagonia's unique attention to detail is evident in its production region, manufacturing partners, and even the ingredients used to flavor the food. The region of origin is Galicia, Spain. The surrounding seawater is said to be low in temperature and high in nutrients. This is why the mussels grown there are of the highest quality. The mussels are produced by a family-owned canning company, "Conservas Antonio Perez Lafuente S.A.The restaurant is run by the "Sushi" brand, which is a leading producer of organic food products. The ingredients used, including flavorful spices, vegetables, and olive oil, are of course organic.
HOUYHNHNM's editorial staff had a chance to try it first, and the plump texture and slight flavor of the sea made us want to drink beer right away! It's hard to believe that it is canned. It would also be delicious tossed with boiled pasta. It would be nice to take this and a baguette on a mountain trip. You can easily have a delicious meal in the mountains!
