The legendary book "ON THE ROAD" was written in just three weeks, based on his travels across the continental United States and his encounters with many different people. Akira Kobayashi, a photographer who encountered and admired this book, went to California alone in 1969, and for six years until 1974, he traveled across the continental United States, mainly to Venice Beach, covering 6,000 miles round trip, capturing his wanderings with his camera. An exhibition and sale of his work will be held at Pilgrim Surf+Supply from October 26.
The Stars and Stripes, hippies, beatniks, Malibu, Venice Beach, Santa Monica, Huntington, and the relics POP (Pacific Ocean Park), New York, and the World Trade Center. The works of Akira Kobayashi, who traveled around the U.S. and experienced the counterculture that was happening in the U.S. at the same time, should be an important keyword in understanding the counterculture of this era.
