Here in Japan, "soft drinks with hamburgers" are the norm, partly due to the influence of popular chain restaurants. However, in the U.S., the home of the hamburger, beer is the norm, especially with gourmet burgers. It is the same as red wine with French food.
Chicago craft brewer "Goose IslandGoose IPA" is a popular brand that goes especially well with hamburgers. To promote the pairing in Japan, Goose IPA, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary, has collaborated with four of Japan's top burger stores, each of which has developed a special menu for Goose IPA. The editorial staff attended the tasting ahead of time and found the Goose IPA to be even more smooth to drink than usual! Let us introduce you to those four stores.
The first restaurant is the famous gourmet burger representative, Ebisu's "Burger Mania". This dish is a cheeseburger, a regular menu item, topped with original candy bacon made with "Goose IPA". The saltiness of the patty, the rich cheese, and the sweetness of the bittersweet beer-candy bacon go perfectly with the "Goose IPA".
based in Ryogoku, Tokyo.Shake treeAt "Goose IPA", a thick patty is tossed with blue cheese sauce and honey, and flavored with yuzu. The aroma and bitterness of the Goose IPA's hops marry with the intense flavor of the blue cheese and yuzu. We hope you will enjoy the harmony created by the three ingredients.
The third store is a homemade pursuit, "Bar & Restaurant Stoves". The main dish, IPA Chicken, is marinated for three days in Goose IPA, soy sauce, and egg, then battered in corn flakes and fried until crispy. It is served with fresh salsa sauce and is very easy to eat.
The last one is a burger store in Osaka that focuses on Kuroge Wagyu beef.Burgers & Vegetables DeliThe sumptuous patty made from 100% Kuroge Wagyu beef is paired with homemade yuzu kosho (Japanese citrus pepper). The tangy flavor is sure to make your beer go down a treat.
Even those who are skeptical about the pairing of beer and hamburgers will be surprised at how good the pairing is once they try it. The event runs from Thursday, November 5 to Friday, November 30. Foodies, don't miss this opportunity!
