This route follows the commonly known "shark's fin," one of the 6,250-meter-high central peaks of Meru in the Indian Himalayas, which is said to have been climbed by zero climbers. Even from the trailer, it is obvious how dangerous this route and this peak are.
John Krakower, author of the bestselling book "To the Sky: The Everest of Nightmares," said, "It takes more than just being a good ice climber to win Meru. A humanistic mountain documentary film that follows a party of three as they attempt to climb this difficult mountain will be released on December 31 (Saturday), New Year's Eve. The film is directed by Jimmy Chin, a professional photographer and National Geographic mountain photographer, and won the Audience Award at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival.
In the film, the entire record of the men's epic and contemplative ascent of Meru Peak, the most difficult route in the Himalayas, is depicted with overwhelming visual beauty.
Like many climbers in the past, they failed on their first attempt at the Shark's Fin. Defeated, the three vowed never to challenge Meru again and returned to their normal lives. However, they face many challenges in their hometowns, and the call from Meru never stops. Why did they decide to try again, some of whom have family members who love them? Why are they willing to go to such lengths to accomplish a seemingly impossible feat?
The film is not only beautifully filmed on a grand scale, capturing the harsh beauty of the mountains, but also shows friendship in the midst of extreme conditions, decisions that affect lives, and the challenging spirit of people who make the impossible possible. The film is also a must-see for its "human strength" that shakes the viewer's life and philosophy.
Prior to the release of this film, a special Japan premiere preview will be held on December 8 (Thu) to commemorate the 50th anniversary of "The North Face. Jimmy Chin, who has been a member of The North Face Athlete Team for 14 years and also the director and actor of the film, is scheduled to come to Japan to appear on stage at the Japan premiere screening. Also, Hiroyoshi Manome, a Japanese alpine climber who actually completed the ascent of Meru Peak in the Himalayas, is scheduled to appear on stage.
