The 990 was created in 1982 as a running shoe for on-road use. It was developed by concentrating the latest technology. It was released at a very high price of $100 at that time, and became a topic of conversation by claiming itself as "990 out of 1000 points" in an advertisement, and has been evolving for 12 generations with "995", "996", "997", "998", "999", "990", "991", "992", "993", "990v3", "990v4" since then. The brand has continued to evolve throughout the 12 generations.

The new "990v4" is the final edition of the USA-made 990 with an ENCAP midsole that promises outstanding support and stability. The upper, which has the unique presence of the Heritage series, is fully wrapped in high-quality nubuck leather, and is available in two colors: gray/black with an autumn/winter gray gradient finish, and black (available only at directly-operated stores) with a luxurious smooth leather finish.
Since the original release, these shoes have always been manufactured in the U.S.A. and continue to embody the craftsmanship and functionality of "New Balance," the brand's legendary series.
