LACOSTE.The polo shirt "L.12.12" is one of the most famous works of the brand. The brand's first polo shirt was made in 1933. René Lacoste, a tennis player who established his own era as a Grand Slam champion, began making polo shirts not only as competition wear, but also with a focus on design.
At that time, long-sleeved tennis wear was the norm. Lacoste's short-sleeved polo shirts made of light and breathable piqué material surprised many people. The name "L.12.12" has its own meaning: the first "L" is the initial letter of "LACOSTE," followed by "1" for the material, "2" for the short sleeves, and "12" at the end for the polo shirt. The final "12" is the number of the sample that René Lacoste ultimately chose. It is well known that it is now loved as a fashion staple, and it has a unique and complete charm.
As part of the Spring/Summer 2019 collection, the LA PIQUÉE 119 1 sneaker is inspired by this polo shirt. The most distinctive feature is the seamless piqué mesh material used for the upper. In addition to its breathability, the fawn fabric wraps around the bare foot for a comfortable fit, making it very easy to walk in. Moreover, the shoes themselves are lightweight because of the lightweight sole.
In a 15-second movie introducing these sneakers, both men and women are seen casually wearing them. The design is simple at first glance, but the stripes on the ribbed ankles and the crocodile logo on the heel, which is the same as on the polo shirt, are clearly accented.
