HEADS HAIR STYLE IN CULTURE 1920-1980 ¥4,399+TAX
Originally, hairstyles and culture were strongly connected. HEADS," to be released on March 26 (Tuesday), will be Japan's first book on hair and culture, and will take as its subject 23 cultures that took place from the 1920s to the 1980s and delve deeply into the representative hairstyles associated with them, a book that has never before been published. The book will be an unprecedented book on hairstyles, taking as its subject 23 cultures that took place from the 1920s to the 1980s and delving into the representative hairstyles associated with them.
The magazine introduces the culture of each decade in order, and explains hairstyles with detailed text based on historical background, using photographs and freshly shot visuals from the period, such as movies and music. Here is a brief introduction to some of the men's hairstyles featured in the magazine that caught our attention.
1950 IVY LEAGUE
The Ivy League consists of eight prestigious private universities on the East Coast of the United States, including Harvard and Yale. Ivy Leaguers, who were both literate and professional, preferred a crew cut with the sides trimmed.
1950 TEDDY BOYS
Ted's" is the oldest street style in England. The key to the hairstyle is the extremely slicked-back bangs. The hair is pulled back tightly at the side of the head using grease.
1950 MODS
The French crew cut in the photo is an example of the variety of hairstyles that can be found among the mods. The common denominator is that the hairstyles are as clean and neat as the stylish fashions.
1960 SKINS
The culture of the same age group was the hippies with long hair, who also emerged. Skins with shaved heads. They were very belligerent, and shaved heads had the advantage of not being grabbed in a fight.
1980 TECHNO, NEW WAVE
The 80's was the era of the digital genesis. It was a time when electronic music, incorporating synths and rhythm machines, became widespread. Mechanical hairstyles with horizontal, sharply angled shaves and close-cropped collars were in vogue.
Looking at it this way again, we can see that hairstyles are completely different in each culture. We reconfirmed that, like clothing, hairstyles are an important element in creating a style.
HEADS" also covers a wide range of other men's styles such as rockers, hip-hop, UK punk, and grunge, as well as women's styles. We hope you will enjoy learning about hairstyles while experiencing various cultures through this book. A launch party is also scheduled to be held in Harajuku on Monday, March 25, the day before the book goes on sale. Details are listed below, so be sure to check it out as well!
