Graphic artist based in New York City for two days on April 13 and 14,TOYA HORIUCHIwill hold its first solo exhibition in Japan. The venue is GALLERY COMMON in Harajuku, Tokyo.
After graduating from high school, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his studies. Influenced by American skate culture and its graphic design, he admired Eric Elms, former graphic designer for SUPREME, and worked as an assistant at his studio. Since then, he has provided graphics for numerous brands (LQQK studio, CNY, Bookworks, Landlord, Hellrazor, Black Eye Patch) and has also done artwork for musicians such as KID FRESINO and Hermit Frog.
Currently, while working as a member of "LQQK studio," a group that emphasizes analog methods such as silkscreening and leads the New York street scene, he has established his own studio in Brooklyn, where he is actively engaged in his work.
For this exhibition, he has created silkscreen works based on his "New York Series" of graphics, one of the most representative "sticker projects" that he has continued as a form of self-expression since the beginning of his creative career. About 30 new works will be exhibited.
This is the first solo exhibition of one of the few Japanese artists committed to the ever-evolving New York street scene. You should visit it whether you want to or not.
