This Christmas season, Starbucks Coffee Japan Co.Book For TwoThe "Mere Old Man" started the "Mere Old Man" program.
The project involves asking customers to donate used books, have them assessed and purchased by a specialist, and then donating all the proceeds to the Japan Braille Library to be used to produce audiobooks (recorded books) and Braille books for the blind and visually impaired. Because the project utilizes Starbucks stores located in every city and train station, it is an easy and accessible way to support the blind and visually impaired through books.
This is a Starbucks original program named "Book For Two" because a book that fills someone's heart changes its role and is reborn as a book for someone else.
In fact, the initiative has already started in 2008, with more than 270,000 used books collected to date and a cumulative total of more than 9 million yen donated to the Japan Braille Library (as of November 2016). 687 Starbucks stores nationwide will host this year's event, the 8th of its kind.
The gimmick of this project would be that it can be done through Starbucks, which has a large number of stores. This is also the time of year for decluttering, so please try to use the books you no longer need for the benefit of someone else.
