Is it love or obsession that keeps parents and children together? The film "MOTHER Mother" spins the untold story of a murder case.

There are as many relationships as there are parents and children. But which is right and which is wrong, no matter how many times the ages go by, there is no answer. Perhaps it is because of this elusiveness that all works of art boldly tackle this theme.

The movie "MOTHER Mother," which will be released on Friday, July 3, is one such example. A fiction based on a true story, the film explores the form of parent-child relationships through the relationship between a mother and her son. Those selected for the film, led by Masami Nagasawa in the lead role, have taken the horrific theme head-on and sublimated it into a single story.

~STORY~.
Akiko has had casual relationships with men and has lived her life on the spur of the moment. A single mother, she shows a strange attachment to her son Shuhei and forces him to be faithful to her. Shuhei is at the mercy of such a distorted form of love from his mother, but tries to respond to it. In his small world, he has only his mother to rely on. Eventually, Shuhei was isolated from his relatives, and as he gradually became isolated from society, a "bond" was born between mother and son. This bond led Shuhei, now 17 years old, to a murder case.... What drove him? What was he trying to protect even at the risk of committing a crime? What was he trying to protect by committing a crime?

This film was inspired by the real-life case of a 17-year-old boy who murdered his grandparents. This behind-the-scenes story, which is not reported in the news, confronts us with a parent-child relationship that cannot be measured by existing standards.

Starring Masami Nagasawa, who celebrates 20 years of acting this year. She plays the role of Akiko, a woman on the outskirts of society and a mother with snarky emotions, and she literally puts her body on the line to play the role. Her performance in the "Under Armor" music video and the drama "Confidence Man JP" have been the talk of the town, but this film is far more than that.

Okudaira Daikane, who played the son Shuhei, is an amazing newcomer who was selected through an audition. Because he had no acting experience, he was able to live through the harsh adolescence of a young boy with an unadulterated sensibility. Sadawo Abe played the role of Ryo, the host who becomes the common-law husband of Akiko. He created the sense of emptiness of a man crawling along the bottom, with his signature charm and occasional bursts of madness.

The film is also supported by Kino Hana as Akiko's mother, Kaho as the child counselor who tries to save the family, and Taiga Nakano as the love hotel employee who helps Akiko.

Directed by Tatsushi Omori, who has been energetically releasing high-profile films such as "Sayonara Gorge" and "Setouchi. With his mature and spontaneous approach, he reveals the non-social drama between a mother and her son.
