The five participating photographers are RK, Keita Suzuki, Yuji Kaneko, Masatoshi Yamashiro, and Matthew George Sperzel, all of whom are active at the forefront of their fields.
Inspired by club culture, they have created two patterns of work, "CLEAN ver." and "DIRTY ver." using vinyl records as a motif. . Each of them is filled with their own individuality, but this time, we would like to focus on the photographer who is the focus of HOUYHNHNM's attention.
First of all, RK, a street photographer active mainly in Asia, was in charge of the key visual for this year's event.
RK CLEAN ver.
He started his career in 2013 as an exclusive photographer for the running crew AFE TOKYO. At the time, his style of photography using only an iPhone attracted a lot of attention, but he later switched to SLR cameras and has produced a number of masterpieces.
RK DIRTY ver.
Fuji in Fuji-Yoshida City, which sparked his popularity and recognition. He has over 535,000 followers on Instagram, and has been personally asked to photograph by artist Takashi Murakami, making him one of the most popular photographers in Japan today.
In the artwork, RK's unique contrasting colors and shadows express a fantastical adult world, while incorporating the nightclubs and fine liquors that were the design source for the collaborative watches.
. We cannot take our eyes off of KEITA SUZUKI, who will follow in his footsteps. He is a photographer who is active in all kinds of media such as magazines, websites, and catalogs, and mainly handles portraits of artists. Another thing that sets him apart from the rest is his ability to step out of the photographic box and use graphics, video, and other forms of expression.
He has photographed the world's top artists, including Travis Scott and Asap Rocky, as well as Japan's KOHH, anarchy, Awich, KID FRESINO, Hirosaka Hiroomi, GENERATIONS, and many more. This distinguished list of names speaks for his accomplishments.
This time, the work is based on the motif of a snake and captures the watch in a sensual worldview. The contrast between the peace in the "CLEAN ver." and the hand sign with the middle finger sticking out in the "DIRTY ver." and the orange filter are striking.
There is also a good selection of photographs by Yuji Kaneko, Masatoshi Yamashiro, and Matthew George Sperzel. Please take a look.
