¥54,500+TAX Same as below
This is the second installment of a high-profile session, the first of which was the release of the Zebra shirt last year, which caused a stir. This time, one of the retailers of these shirts is L'ECHOPPE, a familiar name in HOUYHNHNM's.
This project, which may seem like a déjà vu, is in fact an unprecedented project. We asked TITO of 5525 Gallery, Miyagi of Miyagi Hidetaka, and Kaneko of "Reshop" to explain how the project came about.
--------------------
You used to make shoes for a living, but when did you start making clothes?
Miyagi: 2018. At first there were a lot of things I didn't understand, but little by little I was making what I wanted to wear.
TITO: There is a Korean guy named KB, and he was wearing a Miyagi-Hidetaka shirt. Mr. Ogi (Poggy) found it and started wearing it, and I think that's how I came to recognize it.
Miyagi: At that time, it was not a bandana or paisley pattern, but a character shirt made of sheets.
TITO: The interesting thing about Mr. Miyagi is that he has no image of owning a store. There is no season. He thinks in terms of products.
Miyagi:That's right. I don't do exhibitions, and I don't do wholesale either. I don't wear that many different kinds of clothes to begin with, so when it comes to making what I want, it's really just a small collection.
Kaneko: There is something that I thought was interesting when I heard about this project from TITO. In the first place, the idea of brands teaming up with each other for this project is strange (laughs). (Laughs.) Miyagi-Hidetaka is a manufacturer, and 5525 Gallery, a manufacturer, is in charge of production.
TITO: I bought one of Mr. Miyagi's shirts a while back, and at that time, I got a little greedy. . in terms of comfort, and also in terms of the fine workmanship. . So, I made this shirt with a little arrangement using my background.
Kaneko: I felt that with TITO's involvement, we could reach a different audience than the customers who had been buying Miyagi Hideaka's products until now. Of course, the quality of the product was also assured, and I think I immediately said "I'll do it" when I saw the sample.
The price is reasonable, isn't it?
TITO: The clothes that Mr. Miyagi makes are originally quite expensive. He is not afraid to charge as much as 40,000 yen for a shirt. I think it is normal for Mr. Miyagi to charge that much for a shirt, but for me, it was a new experience to see that he pays such a high price for his products. I have a value system that says good products must be made as inexpensively as possible, but Mr. Miyagi has a completely different way of thinking, and I found that interesting.
Miyagi:From the very beginning, I knew that the shirts would be more interesting if they were made with TITO's background.
Kaneko: It is still interesting that you think that way. Items like this one might not have been done a few years ago if it had been "reshop," but in a good way, we have recently started to do things without being too particular about them.
TITO: I don't think it means that he is not particular about it, but I think that Kaneko-san has already passed the period of being an innocent, which is characteristic of people who are particular about it, and is now in the next phase of his life. That is what is interesting to me.
Kaneko: Ah, I have that feeling .
I guess it is because "reshop" is now able to create things with reflexes that these products have been accepted. It is true that this is a product that is not found in the context of "reshop" as it has been in the past.
TITO: However, both Kaneko-san and Miyagi-san have a taste for authentic American casual, and I think they got along well because they have that in common.
Kaneko: TITO is very good at bringing someone or someone else together. I can't tell you how many people I have been introduced to (laughs).
TITO: Yes, you may like things like casting and matchmaking.
In that sense, you are like an editor, aren't you? Or perhaps from a producer's point of view. I think that the products you have produced this time have a kind of stateless, non-cultural feel that cannot be created within the framework of existing methodologies and frameworks.
Kaneko: Yes, that's right. Also, this shirt is cute even if women wear it.
Miyagi: Thankfully, I receive many inquiries about the shirts I make, even from women.
Kaneko: Oh, I knew it . I envy you. That's what I lack (laughs).
TITO: That is because Mr. Miyagi's clothes are fashionable. When I make something myself, my absolute requirement is that it be something I would want to wear, but this time I also had the task of making something that would look good on Ms. Miyagi. But you seem to be doing fine. It looks the best on you (laughs).
Indeed. The product has a fine and elegant aroma without breaking Mr. Miyagi's usual style, doesn't it?
TITO: I often think about how to sell and deliver my products, and I hope that the sales at "reshop" will create a new trend.
Kaneko: Like TITO-san, I also think a great deal about narrative aspects, so in that sense, you and TITO-san may be similar.
. So, will you be announcing various initiatives in the future? I am looking forward to it. Thank you very much for your time today!
